RN to Bscn?

Hi all! My husband and I are considering moving to Victoria or Vancouver B.C from the US and I know an ADN or associate degree is only equivalent to what we call an LPN or LVN here. My question is, could I still work as an LVN there while pursuing a bridge program to get my BScN? And do any such bridge programs exist?

There are only about 4 programs in existence I believe. You would need to ask the college of nurses in the province you want to work about being licensed as a PN. I'm sure I have heard of happening.

I would suggest trying both LPN and RN. Until the province assesses your transcripts it is difficult to what they will say. Yes ideally BSN is required but not all countries train BSN

You can still get assessed for RN if you just did your ADN-RN. My husband from Washington state did the same and is being assessed for RN at the moment (He did LPN to ADN). I have seen many foreign nurses come to Canada without a BSN and got their RN license. The only thing you need to look out for is how NNAS will assess your documents. Without a license in Canada I don't think you can enter LPN to BSN programs in Canada, and also they're highly competitive to get into. Even the locals here wait for years to get in.

Wow OK, thank you so much. I guess I will try to get it assessed when I graduate. Any idea on how long the process is? Or do you maybe know what the regulations for injecting botox as an RN in Canada are? Also, do I need to have a certain amount of experience working as a nurse before getting assessed or can I apply as soon as I get my RN and apply for visa?

As far as I know you don't need experience first. The process is very lengthy from what I have heard.

Botox injecting requires extra education and nursing experience first.

It took my husband 2 yrs mostly because his school and work (3rd party HR) didn’t provide the right “lengthy” documents NNAS wanted in the beginning... he applied a few months after graduation and has been working in the US and living in Canada all through this time. I’d say the average time takes about a year to get processed for NNAS and 2-3 months for the Canadian provincial board of nursing
