Trying to find a Filipino RN who would offer some help for my wife currently going to school for nursing. She has no idea I'm doing this but I need to help her any way I can. She's experiencing difficulties understanding the reasoning with regards to multiple choice questions as to why certain answers are the correct ones when all seem to be correct. When I saw how upset she was after all her studying, I had to do something. I'm trying this with the hopes that she may be able to talk with someone who has gone through all this and can better explain to her to help her understand. I'm just trying to help her achive her life long dream of being a RN and anyone who may offer help will be greatly appreciated.

Those questions can get tricky. A lot of them will have more than one correct answer. What you have to do is pick the answer that is "most correct". This is usually the answer that deals with what is of the highest priority in nursing questions. A lot of times the easiest way to pick what is of highest priority is to go by the "ABCs" of Circulation or if that isn't relevant try Maslow's Hierarchy of needs. You might not know what those are, but I'll bet she does. :)
I couldn't agree more with the advice to use an NCLEX study guide. I used one the entire time I was in nursing school. Our teachers were big advocates of this method as well. It helps to develop test taking skills.

I'm not quite sure why you need to only hear from a Filipino RN, but I'll give my two cents anyway. I think that perhaps you are thinking that your wife is not necessarily understanding the logic/rationale for the question or answer? Or perhaps you are concerned that she is experiencing a problem with the questions because of a language barrier? Since I'm not 100% certain, I will tell you that in taking multiple choice tests your wife needs to understand that there is only one right answer. There is are distractors to the right answers. There is usually a seductive answer that looks just like the right answer and confuses you. But there is only one right answer. I am sending my son to an SAT tutor to learn more about this process of understanding tests. She doesn't deal with the NCLEX but I suppose that there must be people who tutor on the NCLEX......it's been alot of years since I've taken it. I agree with the post re: buying the book and studying the questions and understanding the rationales. However, knowing how to "play the game" is important and being able to pick the right answer is the game. Maybe some professors can help with the answer you need.
If u can't find someone who she can talk to, go to barnes and noble and purchase a nursing book that prepares u for the "NCLEX" exam.....there are lots of tips and techniques for answering the questions. Also, if u do get the book, (there are many for this preparation) instruct her to practice in the book the sections in which she has already learned and not to expect to know the others.......I would also suggest, that if she answers a question incorrect to read the correct answer and RATIONALE that will help her make sense of it. This is what I did....and I will tell u that if there was a rationale I didn't understand I would research it until I did understand. I hope this helps in some way. Good Luck!

Thank you for your help and taking the time to write back about my post. I figured that maybe a Filipino RN that took the RN classes here in the states could help because of the confusion with the language and the choices available. It seemed that all the second language students in her class were all having the same problem with the multiple choice qustions and choosing the right answer when all seemed correct. We bought the NCLEX book and cd and this has helped her put tremendously although she still goes through those times. I had to try to help anyway I could because I saw how upset and frustrated she was and all the responses we recieved suggested the same help and I greatly appreciate that. Thanks again for your assistance with my problem.
Good luck to your wife and to you too! All husbands should be so concerned!
