Risperdal Constra

Hi all

We are going to be getting a new client at my part time job. She is on Risperdal Consta. I have never giving riperdal IM. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Just like any other IM - in my experience, it's least painful to give it in the gluteal muscle...

Upper outer quadrant of gluteal muscle. Every two weeks. Use needle and diluent in package. Give right away. Alternate right and left glutes.

Since it must be refridgerated, I always take it out of the fridge a few min early and rub the vial in my palms prior to reconstitution- so it's not so cold going in. Patients like it.

Its rather expensive also so I always ask the patient to verify that they are willing to take it before mixing it up.
