I have found what I want to do with my career!!!!! FINALLY!!! you knowthe feeling when you finally know!!! So anyway anyone out there a Registered health information tech?? I know the money comes with experience and it can be challenging finding full time work, but I'm up for the tesk!! It's what I love doing, researching, office, filing, calling...and it being health related just makes it so much more interesting! I even would still get to take A and P course's for my 2 year degree. I'd like to know if people could tell me how this is going for them or if you've done this work before?

My community college has a program were you can be a registered health information tech....RHIT! Coding, filing, whatever else they do...but it's all office..BEHIND THE SCENES!! which I love. They say it's a new thing.

It's not a new thing...if anything, it seems as if it is a more regulated term for being a medical records coder, which have been around for decades.

In a medical office that's a medical assistant

In a facility it's a medical records clerk/health information management clerk. Fancy new title for a decades old job. If not a certified coder, pay is a few dollars above minimum wage. Very few jobs in my area. Most hospitals in my area have moved to hiring experienced LPNs & RNs for this work to maximize reimbursement and reduce billing errors

Specializes in ICU.

This is a nursing student forum. I think to be honest it would be better to ask this question in a medical assistant forum. This job has been around for a long time, they are just trying to fancy up the name to get more money. That's all.
