Returning Students

Published

new nurse here and i was wondering how you all school nurses check your returning students immunization records?

do you go file by file and look to see what they are missing or do you use a system where you look up what they need?

im afraid that i might miss something or not be in compliance:nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting:

I only check returning student records if there is a new requirement. Like this year, 7th and 12th graders need Tdap and MCV4. I have a student roster and I highlight the student name once the documentation has been turned in to me.

so do you recommend to check 7th grade first and then the rest or only 7th grade.

my school only has prek - 8th grade.

do you personally go to their files and look at the shot record or through the system?

I can pull up a computer report of anyone who is out of compliance, then I can exclude them from school until they are in compliance. It is our record secretary's job to make sure the certified shot record is in their cum folder. If it isn't, she contacts me, I go into the state database, and print it out for her.

We do online registration for returning and print out an immunization run a report about 30 days after start of school. We send notices of delinquent shots and they have so many days to get the immunization.
