Investigate programs you're interested in. Enroll in your local community college to knock off the pre-requistes (if required). Take those classes, and apply to programs when you can. (Sorry for the obvious answers). Some programs may not have pre-requisites.

There have been quite a few discussions about the less young people in their nursing programs. With the benefits of experience and age, you'll probably be a great student! Going back to school will be a little awkward at first, but you'll get the hang of it. And, thanks to modern technology, you can use a rolling backpack for your books (rather than strain your back)!

Do not be afraid, if you want something so badly, you will make it. Do not let anyone intimidate you. Follow your dream!!!! Here in Michigan, they have a program for LPN,S to go onto an RN in one year, but I am sure that you would have to go back and be an LPN for a year. Do your research. Just curious, why have you not been an LPN for 10 years? Rhonda

I think you should just go for it too. I have a similar situation. I graduated with my RN 20 years ago, worked for 5 years then had 3 kids and ran a family business for the next 16 years.

I always wanted to go back, but was not sure if I would be able to even get an interview. I got lucky and the hospital I worked at all those years ago called me in and hired me on the spot.

It isn't fun having to learn all this stuff again and being the new kid on the block, but I think in 6 months I'll be ok. I'm taking it one day at a time.

Maybe you can work as an LVN while you work toward your RN. That way you'll have some recent experience when you graduate. Maybe LTC while you're in school?

after a divorce with 3 kids, I landed a much better paying job with General electric factory work, however due to China, our plant will be closing(10 years of my life). so my passion is nursing..and off I go, i will still have to work and go back to school, i graduated 2nd highest in LPN school(1989). I have been so depressed with this decision...but thanks for the positivity...
