Hello has anyone experienced, or know about the rules of being retired for 3 or more and getting rejected from a travel nursing agency because of been retired for those many years? I was informed by a traveling agency recruiter that I couldn't be away from bedside nursing more than a year to be considered for a traveling nurse job. Is that true, does anyone know? please advise thank you.

My experience is after a one year of retirement, you cant get ANY job.
Right but I'm not giving up.

@Stareyes4 This is true for anyone who wants to travel retired or not. Without 1 year experience in the last 12-24 months travel agencies will not hire. It's frustrating but also makes some sense considering travelers often need to jump into a unit -- there is typically no time for refreshing the nursing skills when trying to learn a whole new system on the fly. I would reccomend landing a staff job for a year then applying to travel positions.
Thank you so much for replying to my comment it helped a lot!
You may be able to get some experience through agency work.

Most travel agencies require recent (with in a year) experience. If you are wanting to travel I would suggest applying for PRN jobs close to you. That would satisfy the travel requirement and also get you back into the swing of things. Doesn't sound like at all your being declined is due to anything other than no recent experience - recent meaning within a year.
Thank you for responding your comment really helped me, and I will take that in consideration.

Consider per diem, hospice, home health, or nursing homes. They need the nurses desperately, then you will gain back some experiences to cite on your resume.
