Resumption of care

No. A ROC is only when the patient has been in the hospital for 24 hours. Under 24 is considered observation, not an admission. We have a visit category called "post hospitalization assessment" that we use when they've had an outpatient procedure or a less-than-24-hours stay.

Nope, we dont do that either. An observation is not an admission so there is no need to do ROC.

There is a new reg in the State of Illinois for IL Medicaid patients, when they are admitted then a discharge and re-admit is now required. However, I think this only applies for an admission >23 hours.

is this for medicaid skilled patient or medicaid personal care? just curious,,,as this is the way we handled our personal care side.

I live in CA (but the same thing went in Indiana and Arizona) We only do a resumption if the patient has been in the hospital for more than 23 hours. If the patient is admitted for 24 hours or more we do a transfer to inpatient, when they come out we do a resumption. They are not discharged just because of a hospital admission. Hope this helps.
