What pocket resources do you carry with you at all times? Is there any all-in-one nursing reference that you like that you refer to while at work?
I'm also curious as to know what you carry with you. For me, it's my stethoscope, scissors (on a badge retractor), pens, tape, and some flushes. Oh, and yes, my report sheet (which I made, which allows for 6 pts with areas for labs, meds, new orders, etc.).
Thanks in advance!

In home health my major resource is my food supply. Everything else is secondary.

Would you be willing to share your report sheet?

I definately recommend a good DRUG book like Davis's drug guide and 2010 Intravenous Medications.I stash these books in the med room (too big to carry around)and they are both extremely handy.I also find carrying a little highlighter pen useful. It works great to make important task, labs, etc. stand out.A small sharpie is also great to label dressings, fentynal patch, etc.As far as looking up diseases and such I use the internet if I need a reminder. Lastly, find a good energy bar packed with fiber and protien and stash them somewhere where you can refuel in a hurry!

This was during my nurse internship: My drug book and a medsurge handbook-which i leave at the nurse's station, i carried my stethoscope, a black and a red pen, a sharpie, alcohol wipes, and some flushes. Oh...and my cheat sheet/brain sheet which was the dietary worksheet that I scribbled everything on. I am also looking for a new sheet that I may take with me wherever I go just in case the hospital I get hired at doesn't have a dietary worksheet. I'm currently interviewing for new positions.

You can still carry flushes around????
Since the beginning of the year we haven't been able to carry extra flushes, you can have one in your hand if you are going somewhere to use it. Apparently they are considered medication and have to be kept locked up.

the flushes are individually wrapped and then the plastic needle tips (they come with a cover) are also individually wrapped inside that bag, you open the flush then the tips, connect it and use it. so we can carry it, i hadn't heard of them having to be locked up before...i'll have to double check policy when i go back

I use Tarascon Internal Medicine and Critical Care pocketbook. I have used this for about 10 years. I buy a new one every year. 20bucks at Barnes/Noble. It is small and fits in my back pocket.
