Resource Help

I have been an RN for six years now. I started in acute care went to the OR then did Medicare appeals. I just started a new job as a nurse manager in a long term care facility. The transition has been huge. I was looking for books to read to help me understand better how long term care works. I really think I will like it with time but I was thrown into a mess, with staff members having no direction for a long time. So any help finding books on LTC managing, RN in LTC, etc. Thanks

    Honestly the only thing I can think of that will help is to thoroughly read and understand your facility's Policy & Procedure book. It's fine and dandy to know state regs, but if you're not following your own P&P that can get you into trouble. Managing in LTC (so far that I've seen from the floor level) is based on making sure we (floor staff) are adhering to those policies and other facility protocols. Extensive knowledge in those areas covered in the P&P will help you readily see when something is out of whack so that you can provide direction on the way it needs to be done or whatever the case may be. In other words, manage. Best of luck.
