For nearly three years I've worked at this hospital as an aide, nurse extern, and as of next month a nurse applicant. While I was an aide and extern most of the doctors either ignored me completely or were out right rude. This goes for aprns as well. Now that I'm done with school it's changing and all of them will talk to me and act like I'm part of the team. The problem is I've built up quite a bit of resentment towards them over the years from being treated like a nobody. Is this something that goes away or has anyone else gone through this?

The only way it will go away is if you get rid of the chip on your shoulder and let it. Face it, MDs and NPs talk to the people they NEED to talk to. They don't need to talk to the phlebotomist for example. Do you think the phlebotomist harbors these immature feelings of resentment? When you were a tech, they didn't need to talk to you so they didn't. I suggest you grow up and get over this. It's unbecoming of a professional.

well..i mean..ive been an aide for a long time, and ive never really had the need to speak to the doctor. now when i sit, they do ask me general questions about the person im sitting with, but its not really important..why let it bother you? aides are important, but the doctor isnt going to be getting his information from us, he needs to speak to the nurse. now you are a nurse, and i bet you will get really tired of talking to the doctors, judging from some of my coworkers conversations!
