Required Classes for Nursing School

I really need to speak to a counselor. I want to apply this semester, but I am hestiant because so many people I know are taking at least physiology (which is not required to get in). I am now taking anatomy, which is the last class need for application. I do get what you are saying.

There's no harm in applying, if you don't get in you could always spend your time off taking anything else you haven't taken yet. However, are you sure that physiology isn't needed as part of the supporting courses for the program? I can't imagine people taking classes they don't need for their degree. I'm not saying people don't do it, I'm just saying is shouldn't hinder your admission. Unless your school is highly competitive...

No, physiology is needed for the nursing degree,however, it is not required to be taken before acceptance to nursing school. My grades are great and I volunteer and I have a passion for nursing and the profession. That definitely will come across in my interview.

Like I said it certainly doesn't hurt to apply. I would never tell you not to apply just because you hadn't completed all of the supporting courses as well as pre-reqs. Not everyone does all of the supporting courses before hand. It just depends on the school.

I know my school admits people who haven't completed the supporting courses. I am just doing it to 1. boost my chances of getting in 2. lighten my load while in the program and 3. At my school you can only apply once a year and I never would have been able to apply last year, so I have had plenty of time to take EVERYTHING! 2 whole years

Don't pass up your first opportuinty to apply and get in to your schools program just because you haven't taken classes that aren't required for the application process.

One class I haven't seen posted in this thread is Pathophysiology. It appears most ASN programs incorporate it into their Med-Surg classes, but don't have it as a stand alone class, let alone as a pre-req. Pathophys is, however, a pre-req for some accelerated BSN programs, and for several ASN/BSN programs that I've looked at in Utah.
