I wonder if I have had posts reported? Sometimes I react before I think things though and my responses sound mean to the person who reads them.

I don't like when I do that. Overall I like to read an entire thread before I respond and try not to be critical. I am human, though, and when it is implied that I am stupid for thinking in a certain way or told I've dropped a bomb this time (when I merely summarized factual and research based information gleaned from multiple credible sources in multiple clinical settings) I do get annoyed.

So, thanks for mentioning this problem. However, I've already concluded that I don't really belong on allnurses. I don't think I really belong in nursing at all, anymore. I fear the loss of a decent income when I make my sabbatical a permanent state. But when I think about walking into a typical nursing setting, every hair on my body starts to stand up and shout, "No, no".

I think Home Depot, Starbucks, ditch digging might be more rewarding.

I want to work at Barnes and Nobles, so I can read all the books and get a discount!

Seriously abrenrn, I haven't seen which post you are referring to, but remember, you can always edit a post, or even come back and make nice. We're a pretty forgiving bunch around here. :)

Well, I've been keeping my nose clean, so I know it's not me this time.

I have to wonder though, as I haven't been on long enough to realize which one might be missing, which thread started the commotion this time? Which posters are guilty of said offense?

I guess what I mean to say is, I find these warnings rather ambiguous if intended targets are not identified.

Isn't the advice that keeps being given here to use the PM feature if you have a problem with a poster?

I understand posting this in the offending thread, but I don't understand starting it's own thread.

I hadn't read that thread until I received a PM "heads up" from another member about it's ties to this thread. There are people that don't read every thread. Imagine their confusion at reading this one alone.

Now I'm gonna go dream about a chocolate chip cookie dough Shiver.

Yeah...like ME...now I have to go read all of them coz I am such a nosy thing and hate to miss out on stuff...I agree that this sort of post belongs in the thread itself

I think sometimes it is the nature of the beast. We are compel to act even when we don't think before we act. For the most part I find the threads refreshing and a great place where all nurses from different walks of life share their good, bad, and ugly experiences. This is the best place to be I have to say.

As one who has felt flamed, I find this forum refreshing. I have seen what the moderator described in a number of threads and shared my experience. On various threads I have been called hostile, an academic snob (which seemed to miss my statement that I found education AND experience to be important). I have felt the sting of sarcasm by several posts. I have read that anyone who thinks as I do is stupid (and worse). The same poster will deny that they called me stupid, though, even though anyone who thinks like me must be stupid.

I have even tried the PM route when I was afraid my comments would lead to further flaming. One ignored it completely. The other ignored it until I really annoyed with a post then directly called me all sorts of nasty things in the PM to me. That is the first and only person I put on my ignore list.

So, obviously I am contributing to the flames though this is rarely my intent and my most "flaming" comments are in direct response to perceived flames.

Having tried the PM route, getting no reasonable responses, I give up.

Yes, reading, learning how to use tools, checking groceries, all sound very comforting at this point in my life.

I understand what P_RN is talking about-threads do get hijacked often. I just think of it as "stream of consciousness"! But I agree that it would serve the intent of this posting better to have it on the original thread. By putting it here separately, it creates a morbid curiousity! (at least with me!). If it is on the original thread then those who are offensive will at least know it.

It is interesting, though, that someone received a PM re "ties to this thread." I did not know that there were any specific ties to any threads. I shared experiences I had in this discussion forum without reference to the particular threads because I have seen it on all the threads. I used a couple of specific things I have heard and felt, though the same or others have been said in other threads.

In fact, when I do bring problems directly to the threads I am usually ignored, called names, or perceived sarcasm is redefined by the original poster.

Still, if this encourages people to read entire threads (something I try to do before I post), all for the better.

If anyone is curious about specific threads, I'll share a trick I picked up early on when I was curious about seemingly hostile posts in a thread I was following. I checked the posters profile, read through some of the other threads the poster had joined and concluded that, yes, there was a general tone of hostility. I also looked at the posters web page. I felt I needed to check my perceptions before making a comment regarding them.

Go to my profile and see where I have posted before. No PMs are really needed to get that information.

The moderator who started this thread did not refer to any other threads in particular. I chose to respond to this post without referring to specific threads.
