Hey all! I'm planning a move to Colorado From Illinois in late November and was going to wait until three months out at most to start applying for jobs. However, as I was perusing a few sites today, I found a job that is exactly what I would want. Do you think it'd be pointless for me to attempt to go after it now (in July)? Also, I currently have a job and a lease and no I could not afford to break my lease and leave ASAP if they needed me to (unless I magically found someone to take over my lease). Also just as extra info I do have my Colorado license currently because I applied as soon as I decided to move. Thanks for any advice!

If you cannot move before November, then yes, I think it would be pointless, and a waste of their time to apply for it now. They haven't gotten the okay to post the position unless they need it filled now. Most places understand that the hiring process will take a few weeks, and that the new hire will likely have to give 2-4 weeks notice. So that's about 2 months, max. They would likely not be willing to wait an additional three months for you to come aboard.

It really depends on if they can hold the job for you or not. Some do and some cannot but I'd inquire. It wouldnt hurt to do so.

I applied for a job in TX around late January; interviewed in February; graduated in May; moving to start later this month.
