The job market is tight, but you have experience and a cert, so that should make it a little bit easier. Best to go ahead and apply for your license and once you have it, you can start applying for positions. You might check out the hospital at NAS Jax (assuming you're going there), they have been looking for nurses lately.

Unfortunately, I don't. I've just seen their ads on the usual job boards: Career Builder, Yahoo Hot Jobs, occasionally on Craigslist, I think. Good luck.

I just arrived in Jacksonville, about three weeks ago and so far I have had calls from potential employers, the only problem............I do not have my license in hand yet. Apparently I was told by the state board that it can take up to four weeks to receive the license and one of the main questions that the employers ask me when we are talking is do I have my license yet and when I tell them that I have applied and I do not have it yet they tell me to call back when I have it. The other issue is my original state the one that starts with an O and it is not Ohio does not work with the Nursys verification system so I had to mail in verification. Any way with all that being said, it seems to be jobs just having that license in hand says a lot.

You can apply to NAS Jax by going onto USAJOBS and typing in Jacksonville,FL or go to one of the contractors there which is TCMPcareers they supply nurses for military hospitals and right now I believe they need ED nurses. Let me just say that as far as I can remember military hospitals have always done rotating shifts, one week you will be on days and the next week is on nights, that is just the way they roll. But if that floats your boat GO FOR IT. Good Luck

Thanks for the info! The whole rotating shifts thing definitely wouldn't work for me. Especially if my husband deploys, plus we'll have a newborn when we get there! So I'll need to stick with one shift, days hopefully!

Well, I'm glad to hear that you've had calls MSNorBUST. It gives me hope of finding a job quickly! We should get a definite transfer date by next month, and then I'll apply for my FL license so hopefully I can have it in hand by the time I get there. I hope yours arrives soon so you can get to work!

Exactly. With your experience I would think that they would hire you without a problem. And they do have some positions opened.

If you have a letter stating that your licensure has been approved and should arrive in X weeks, then you should be able to give them that to suffice in the meantime.
