Hello,
I am in the Fort Myers area now and there are NO opportunities here anymore, and we are on a wage freeze as well as benefits going up. I am an RN on a MedSurg/Tele floor for a year and was a CNA for 7 years before. I am finishing my Bachelor's and want to go into CRNA so of course, I am looking for an entry into ICU. But, I am also looking for a new area to relocate to. Where are you living and working? Is it a safe area for a family and somewhere you want to live your life at? Do you get paid reasonably? Are there bonuses and or are you unionized????
Any information you can give would be great!
Thanks:nurse:

I think the lack of responses is an indicator that there just aren't any "great places to recommend" at the moment. Things are tough all over -- and if you are lucky enough to have a job that is keeping a roof over your head and food on the table, your best bet might be to simply make the best of it for another year or two and hope that the job market in general improves.
If you are dead set on moving and going to grad school ... start looking at various schools and narrow your list of possibilities based on cost, curricula, and any other factors of importance to you. For example, do you have friends or family in another area? It would be nice for you and your family to know some people in the area where you live -- to help you get settled in, to spend holidays with, et. How do you feel about a few feet of snow on the ground? If you don't like it, you should probably eliminate schools (and cities) in the North. Do you prefer a big city or a smaller town? etc.
You won't find a good job market anywhere, but you can narrow down your list of possible schools and communities based on your other preferences.

That, and that the OP already recently posted the question a few times
Stacia,
Some places have more openings than others, and you only need the one job that's right for you. What's a great place for one may be hellish for another. Chicago has wonderful areas, and some not so wonderful ones. Chicago has met my personal, financial, educational & family needs.

I more than appreciate your post and thoughts. Thank you. I'm new to posting on the board and get lost on here a lot. I didn't realize the op answered the question more than once. Sorry
I lived in Chicago 26 years. I been in Fla 7. I lived south of Chicago tinley area and grew up in calumet city and can vouch for the differences in goodband bad areas. I was looking in Niles and Naperville and the job market looks horrible. Texas I heard is booming.
My family is in Chicago. But I'm finding it hard to find something there. I only moved here because my mom had a stroke at 49 and I moved here to take care of her. Fort Myers is number one for drugs...and there's 2 Catholic elementry schools to choose from and one Catholic high school. I'm just looking for the spot I will be in for life as I'm bringing my soon to be husband and 5 year old.
If you know anything in Chicago u can suggest pls let me know....I'm a med surge/ Tele nurse taking my acls now and pals in Oct. Looking for critical care.
Thanks for ur thoughts

Bummer about the drug issue there but I can you drugs are everywhere -even in the uppity communities. They just use different drugs. I also send my daughter to private school -not religious- because the public school system in California stinks. No where is perfect but I hate cold weather! As a side note we spend every Christmas in Sanibel as my parents live 1/2 the year there.
Advocate, Adventist, and Resurrection are large "chains" in ChicagoLand, and Rush is also a large facility & has some openings. Just check the sites and keep rechecking. New positions are regularly posted, so you need to be ready to pounce.

I am looking for a job in Chicago too? Any tips or advice. Thank you. What are some of the good areas and bad areas? How is Wheeling IL? I also want to get in to a MSN FNP program? It seems hard to get a job if you don't know anyone:(. Thank you for your help.
