I've been a AN member for years but haven't written a topic in a while so here I go. My husband and I plan to move to Houston this coming June 2015. I have been nursing for 9 years NICU is my main but I have lots of experience in PICU, peds CICU and NICU/Pediatric transport. I have an ASN and am working on my MSN, I'm not worried because my ASN has never held me back and I have lived all over the US. Anyway I was wondering about hospitals in Houston. I know all about TMC and want to work there and I am open to other areas as well. I am specifically interested in Texas Children's Hospital and Memorial Hermann Children's but I know that Houston has a ton of hospitals and I am totally fine with working at smaller NICUs too. I am also interested in doing transport again as well. I would like to know the best hospitals to work for great benefits, work environment and decent pay. I also want to know about great areas to live as well. I am not worried about a commute I have lived in much busier cities and have had commutes as much as 2 hours for 30 miles. I also have 2 children so good school districts are a must. I have spent time in Houston so I am slightly familiar, but would like to know what people who live there or have moved there think. All comments, suggestions and opinions welcome.
Thanks in advance,
