Relocating back to the Bay Area

U.S.A. California

Published

Hello,

I am relocating back to the Bay Area from Florida in June and I am in need of some good advise about where to look for a job (which hospitals are better, etc).

However from looking at other blogs, it seems that California is having a tough time with the economy the way it is (Florida is not much better).

I have 1 1/2 year of experience. Is the Bay Area really hard to get a job? Does anyone knows about Sacramento?

I appreciate in advance any good imputs.

Thanks

Bay area and Sacramento are almost impossible for jobs. You should aggressively seek a job before you move unless you have a lot of savings to live off while you are unemployed.

Why do you say that? Is the difficulty for new grads only or in general?

That is very discouraging to hear....but I have to say, Florida is not much better....

I appreciate your feed back, but I'd appreciate some more information.

Thank you so much

Claudia

You can find many threads here on AN on the lack of jobs in the SF Bay area. I used to live there but moved away because I could no longer afford to be unemployed. I am not the only person who could not find work in that area and moved away. The Sacramento area is not any better. Experienced nurses as well as new grads have trouble getting jobs in CA in general and the Bay area in particular.

Specializes in Emergency, Trauma, Critical Care.

I completed my RN in the bay area, but did not stay there because for every job opening there was typically at least 50 to 100 applicants, and yes, that was a new grad RN, but I also had several years of RN experience. Additionally, I have friends that live up there who WORKED as LVN's in hospitals, for many years (we're talking 10+) and they could not get a job where they worked despite their commitment as a long-term employee.

I know experienced nurses who moved there, and could not find a job, sometimes you will get lucky and find something in a nursing home or a clinic, but for the most part, there is no jobs period.

Sacramento may be a little better, but not much, as many of the people who can't find jobs move there next and have greatly increased the competition for work.

If you have a connection, use it. If you do not, please have something lined up prior to moving. You can do a search and see just how many threads are on here of nurses who have not found work. Good luck to you!
