Rejected? Then accepted...?!

It's been a while since I've been on these forums, but here's an update to any of you that may be wondering where I have gone:

So I just got a packet from USF today saying this:

"Congratulations. You are invited to join the University of San Francisco for the Spring 2009 semester as a transfer student in the School of Nursing. We are offering you admission for Spring 2009, rather than Fall 2008 because of the limited availability of clinical rotations in each term. As a transfer student admitted for the Spring 2009, you will be able to begin your clinical rotations in Spring 2009." (etc etc)

Someone PLEASE tell me I am not dreaming! Does this mean what I think it means?! Lol.

I guess I can consider this a late blessing. I was really starting to lean towards switching my major to Microbiology but realized it involved a lot of chemistry and physics (eckgh)....Although, is there some field in nursing I can specialize it that focuses more on diseases and stuff? I read somewhere that you can become a clinical nurse specialist who can perform in advanced fields such as mental health and cancer. What would it take to get to that kind of occupation? And could you fill me in on other opportunities in the field of nursing that pertain to my interests?

I just realized that I have a lot of questions. My mind is just kind of going beserk after receiving this letter x]

Make the decision and go with it! Spring 2009, you've got about 6months to go, what will you do while waiting?

Congratulations! If you REALLY want this, then go for it. I know USF has some crazy tuition and fees, but again, what private school doesn't?

Specializes in CNA/Nursing Student.

Congratulations! And you should check out the Advanced Practice Nursing forum under the Specialty tab and see if something on there can answer your question about what it takes to become a clinical nurse specialist.

:ancong!:

I'm just gonna take life as it is and go for it; I might specialize in something later on (I'm thinking of oncology). The tuition may give my parents a heart attack, but I've decided to start working full-time so I can at least pay for a portion of my expenses and then apply for loans. $40,000+ a year is quite a hefty price tag, but I guess I don't mind anymore because I made it in. I can't believe it!

Specializes in TCU.

Congratulations!

I was originally offered a spot in Spring '09, but I was bumped up to Fall '08. I know that feeling, it is awesome!

I am also interested in diseases, and I hope to specialize in epidemiology and immunology. Right now, I will be going for an AS degree, but I will be transferring after I graduate to an 18 month accelerated RN to MSN.

CHEERS:cheers:

Specializes in none yet!.

Congrats on your spot!! Once you are in nursing school, I am sure it is possible to specialize (although probably with advanced courses!). I am going into the DNP graduate entry program at CWRU and they ask you to pick a specializm right at application stage (although at interview they said you are not held to it). Essentially it is so CWRU knows what Masters fields the DNP students are interested in as we start our MSN studies 16 months into the course. I ticked oncology but there are lots of different options - I am interested in oncology as it uses my genetics background, but may change once start clinical!

Julz!!!! I am so happy and excited for you. That is so great! Wonderful.

Specializes in Med-Surg.

I know the feeling! I just received my acceptance letter today from one of the top schools in Georgia. I was turned down by subpar schools and now I get into the what I believe (and have read) is the best nursing program here. I am shocked and ecstatic at the same time. Questions are flying first and foremost HOW DO I PAY FOR THIS?????

Congratulations! This is what we have all been working so very hard for and the A&P brutality along with Microbiology viruses are all paying off! GOOD LUCK!

YIPPEE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi

I received the exact letter! SO I'll be there in the spring too! Are you accepting? By the way do you know what USF School of Nursing is ranked? I keep getting different opinions and little info on line.:yeah:

I would look into it on www.usnews.com they have a list of schools and where they rank etc. I hope that helps!

Congrats on your acceptance! Very Exciting!

Oh, I know, I was so SHOCKED when I got that. Totally not expecting it, but it beats having to re-apply and go through the dreaded process again! I am most likely going to accept (mailed in my Intent to Enroll form in the mail today :loveya:) but my parents still want me to apply to other programs for the sake of tuition. I doubt I will make it in because I have the same stuff to offer as last semester, except with a slightly lower GPA, so I'm just going to take this offer and run with it!

I heard that USF's program is really good, but obviously very difficult. I'm trying to keep my brain active because I won't be enrolled in school with the exception of one last GE class. I heard that if you get two C's or lower than 2 C's in any of those nursing classes they dismiss you or something? Correct me if I'm wrong, just what I've heard.

But yeah, I will probably see you there! I'm so excited! Going to pay that $250 deposit and send in transcripts soon! :yeah:

I should apply to more schools, but honestly I am too lazy. This is the only school I applied to and that is why I'm so surprised. My classmates at CCSF struggle and I hear all these horror stories of rejection and crazy 3 year wait lists. It sucks when I told them I got in USF they were kind of jealous... I don't know about the C grade thing, I'll ask my friend who went there. I know the counselors there really keep you on track since it is a small school. BUT I don't ever want a C in any class. After getting my BSN I want to specialize too. I was thinking tropical medicine...Anyway the tuition here is nuts!!But I think nursing is a field where you can pay off loans more aggressively than say a social worker, so we can afford to splurge on a fantastic education in a field that will treat us right in the long run.
