Just got an email today from Regis and was told I didn't get an interview. I had good recommendation letters, good essay, but my grades from science classes are not all that good, and my overall undergrad GPA was below 3. I had some Cs in biology classes, and got Bs in both AP 1&2. I wonder if I should retake those classes. It seems silly to me because I already have a master degree in public health and my master GPA is 3.7. Retaking those science classes would cost me so much money because I just moved to CO so not a resident yet. The reason I got poor grades in those classes was because I had severe depression and the school I went was among the top 10, so it was difficult for me. I am working as a caregiver, soon as a CNA. I am gonna call Regis and ask about my application but in the mean time what should I do? What would you do if you were in my situation?

Personally, I'd probably wait until I was a resident and take the courses over at a community college. But that's why it took me 5+ years to get my ADN. I would rather wait than pay more. In this instance though I really paid the price, since jobs for new grads are MUCH harder to find than even a few months before I graduated! If you're really driven and can afford it there are tons of other new schools in CO that offer some sort of fast track bsn program if you have a degree in another field. Look into Denver School of Nursing. OTOH a solid base of A&P and chem courses is a must have for a nursing student. If you were very depressed and had trouble with the classes you may not have a strong base of knowledge to draw from and retaking may not be a bad idea.

You could look somewhere else. I know that Regis expects a lot out of people and they only want people with A's and B's( it seems like!) in the science courses. Like said above, you could try an accelerated program like Metro State or you could try Platt College, Denver School of Nursing,National American University, Or, you could apply to some of the community colleges and see if you can get in on a 2 year program.(Wait list?) But, retaking them might be an option as well if you want to make yourself have a greater chance for CU or Regis...its really up to you...good luck to you and I hope things work out! :)

Front Range Community College has a waitlist of about 1 year. If I were you I would apply to be wait listed there, I would not take those classes over. The wait will be around the same time, so I would go about it this was and save on the tuition money, and by the time your wait list number has come up you will be a Colorado resident.

If I were in your situation, I would definitely apply elsewhere!!! I was determined to do everything I could not to retake those classes I got C's in. Plus, Regis is expensive. You'll save a lot more money going to another school.
