when to register with Pearson vue

Published

I moved to Washington state from Canada & applied to the state for my license. since i'm coming from a foreign country I need to have my transcripts evaluated which I expect will be completed within the next several weeks. I am wondering when I need to register with pearson vue for my exam. When I looked on their website it seems like I should be registered prior to the state getting all of my info. but the application package from the department of health looks like I need to be approved by them before I can register. I feel stuck.. I don't want to register and pay my fee only to find out that my transcripts aren't good and lose my registration fee. but on the other hand, I don't want to miss out on writing the exam in the time frame I need to because I waited too long to register. I keep hearing about the "ATT" I understand what it is but not sure who it comes from. My apologies if this is posted elsewhere and i overlooked it. I tried calling the department of health and the lady I spoke to just confused me more. so what should I do? Thank-you in advance

Hi there!

The ATT comes from the state board of nursing once they have proof that you have graduated from an accredited nursing school. Meaning they have recieved your transcripts, they see that you passed and your school is accredited.

After I sent in my information to the State Board of Nursing it took approximately 4 weeks to recieve my ATT in a email, sometimes it takes longer.

When you go to register for an exam you need your ATT number to do so and you also need it when you go to sit for the actual test along with a valid driver's liscense.

So once you recieve your ATT you can go online and pay the $200 with PearsonVue and schedule. The websites has a list of dates that you can choose to take your test.

Although I registered before I recieved my ATT I do not think it is necessary because you can't physically do anything until you have the ATT.

I hope this was helpful

Best wishes!!

The ATT is administered by pearsonvue once they get the go ahead from the BON. As a foreign graduate it can take several months and therefore the BON's generally recommend you wait to receive eligibility. Your ATT time starts from when the ATT is issued so you have plenty of time to sort out a test date once you have eligibility from the BON to sit the exam

Good luck with the process.

hi! :D so wat ur saying is that we wait for the ATT before we register with pearson VUE? or do I have to register now while my application is still being processed to recieve the att? sorry kind of confused... :lol2:

You first apply to the Board of nursing in your state and they will examin your transcripts and then send you a letter of 'eligibility to take the test', once they have found that you have graduated from an accredited nursing school.

Then, you can register with Pearsonvue, who will then contact your BON and find out whether you are eligible to take the test. Once Pearsonvue gets the green light from your BON, Pearsonvue will send you your ATT.

I received my 'letter of eligibility' then registered with Pearsonvue and received my ATT from Pearsonvue via email within 15minutes from registration!

Pearsonvue will let you know how long you have before your ATT expires, which will depend on what your BON allows. It can be from 1 month to 1 year, according to the NCSBN site.

I hope this helped. I was just as confused, while I was doing all this, so I thought I'll jump in here and help a little.
