Red flag?

Published

Hey everyone!

so I just had my 90 day evaluation. It wasn't even an evaluation, really. My performance wasn't discussed unless I asked. They were actually more concerned with me leaving more than anything else! I've learned that my current place of employment has a high turnover rate, but we also have a lot of travelers. Should I take this as a red flag?

...a red flag for what?

Possibly. Are there any floor nurses who have been there for a long time? Are they happy? Are you frequently/usually understaffed? Are YOU happy?

A lot of the nurses seem pretty unhappy. Even the floor nurses whenever I'm admitting someone. They're always running ragged! We are always understaffed, it's ridiculous. I'm not too happy to be honest. I think it looks bad to leave after 3 months.

That sounds more like first-hand experience than a red flag.

I would actually consider it a red flag. But, I would stick around for awhile longer. In nursing, less than a year will make you look bad, not the facility. I'm sorry for this experience.

Oh I have been a nurse for 4 years now! But I figured leaving within 3 months looks bad regardless of the amount of experience.

I've had 90 day reviews where the focus was more on retention, and I didn't find anything odd about it. Maybe it's just the way my current facility does things. With both my jobs at my current facility I've had these 90 day reviews.

It would look bad, but you could probably get away with it if your employment history is stable, otherwise. If they're babbling on so much about retention, maybe they're trying to change things? Try asking for what you need to be happy ...especially if you have other options and don't have to stick around.
