Recruiter Issues

Hi All,

I am a Canadian RN preparing to start travel nursing in the US hopefully as early as this summer or early fall. First when I looked for a travel company I searched approx. 50 websites. I settled on Nurses Rx because they are partnered with Fresenius (dialysis product manufacturer) so they have many dialysis opportunities. Also, the recruiter was eager to get me on board and get the ball rolling. As far as helping with the paperwork, they have been marvellous, but at times I found my recruiter difficult to get answers from. I would email her with a few questions and sometimes she would write back answering one question or perhaps not even write back at all (which is happening now). I found a few websites which do not give Nurse Rx the best ranking and I may be questioning my choice because of this only.

Can anyone share their experiences with NursesRx or recommend other companies that specialize in dialysis travel nursing? Also, would it be inappropriate for me to request a different recruiter at NursesRx? After doing some reading on this forum I can see that the recruiter is the nurses' lifeline during an assignment and right now I do not have much faith in mine.

Any insight anyone can share would be much appreciated. Thanks so much in advance.

"Partner" is a cool term. Lots of agencies are "partnered" with Fresenius. Picking a large agency such as NursesRX (an American Mobile brand - all their brands have access to the exact same assignments) is one way to go but every single agency will pick up acute care assignments, some more than others.

Both DaVita (davita) and Fresenius (renalcaregroup) have in-house agencies if you want first crack at their assignments. These agencies are semi-specialized in dialysis: qtstaffing, renalreserve, nurseresearcher, foundationmedicalstaffing, fmcna, and mynewdirections. Add dot com to the lower case names to find them online.

No matter what, you need a recruiter more suited to your needs at this point. I'd look for several other ones.

Thanks so much. So you suggest having several recruiters?

Well, the idea is several agencies. As a matter of course, each will have a different recruiter for you. Only continue signing up if you communicate well with the recruiter and they go to work to get you what you want.

I am a dialysis traveler. I can recommend looking into foundation medical staffing and quik travel staffing. I would stay away from nurses rx, but that is my opinion only. I would probably only work with foundation, quik travel, new directions, or fortus. They are all small companies that specialize in dialysis. Can you send PMs? I would love to discuss more details if you need. Dialysis traveling is becoming like a big specialty but right now we have somewhat limited options for agencies. I try to stay way from big companies, that is my preference.

I didn't know the Fortus Group had a lot of dialysis. Thanks for the info.

I love!!!! fortus. Hands down they have been the for ME!! But since I'm a LPN I'm limited and they don't have anything at the moment

What agencies are on your short list?

Ned are you asking me?

Yes! Other than Fortus for dialysis. The question of which agency to use for dialysis comes up regularly.

So far I have only traveled with fortus and foundation. There's RN network, trustaff, rnnetwork, maxim, and of course man but they contract out to other agencies

New traveler here...

signed on with NursesRX beginning of May for NICU position. Did all the pre employment requirements. But when I got to the orientation there was a surprise drug screen. No problem..I was not worried. Had nothing to hide..but...a few weeks earlier I had issues with muscle spams which my doctor had prescribed me Valium. Well, 2-4 weeks later it shows up as benzos in my urine. I was embarrassed and humiliated to be told I would not be able to continue with orientation that day. I went home not knowing if I had a job or not. I had passed my drug screen that was done before I went to the facility.. I'm sure my naivety was the fault of mine. After a few grueling days I was cleared following the verification of my prescriptions. My main complaint is my recruiter was calling daily sometimes 3-4 times, all excited and encouraging to get me to sing on, but when I really needed her, she was not answering my calls or returning my calls. Not only did I miss out on working those first 36 hours, I was out the gas and housing. My recruiters response was "it's okay, we won't charge you for the hours you missed." I reminded her in a later conversation that it was out of my control and that I should be compensated. She agreed. So, now I am waiting to see if she will reimburse me the gas and housing costs from that week. I hope she comes through on her promise. As far as recommending NursesRX which is under the parent company of AmN, not sure at this point. I have a few weeks left on this contract to decide if I will take on another assignment with this recruiter let alone the company.

Unfortunately, only if you have a problem can you discover how well the recruiter/agency will support you. I do have to say though that a failed drug screen is also out of the agency's control. Remember, this is not like a regular job. The agency can only afford to pay you if you generate billable hours. They don't have a margin that can allow for injuries or any other issue that causes missed hours. You'll note that the hospital didn't cut you any slack either. But here is hoping the agency helps. The more history you have with an agency showing proven value, the more likely they are to treat you well. So that is also not in your favor this time. Best of luck!
