Reason for nursing

Hello everyone...sorry if some might think this is personal. I was born with tetralogy of fallot with pulmonary atresia and have been in and out the hospital my whole life. This is what really pulled me towards the medical field. I don't have any other interest for a career. Is anyone else in nursing or going for nursing for the same reason, or close to the same reason?

Not me, but that is so cool to "meet" an adult who was born with tetralogy! The few children I have met born with this did not survive into adulthood.

Welcome to All Nurses!

I know exacty what you mean. I was born with a cleft palate, had a tracheostomy done when I was 2 days old. I've spent most of the time with specialists and nurses than with my school teachers. I was always sick, But I loved being in hospitals as a child, and I didn't know why. Thats when I knew I wanted to work in the medical field.

Best of Luck!

Good luck....

Nursing would never have been a thought if I wasn't blessed with WPW.

biker nurse do you have a pacemaker for wpw? I got a biventricular pacemaker last march.

NO back 17 years ago I was the 13th person in the US to be ablated but I don't do anything easy... I have 3 possible 4 extra pathways. I want to give it a try again but it will have to wait as my cobra ran out and it will be a long time before I can get pre-existing covering. My meds are holding me so far.

I went into nursing for different reasons, but chose cardiac nursing because my son was born with coarctation of the aorta and a bicupsid aortic valve. And because my 15 year old brother had an anomolous coronary artery and underwent revascularization shortly after it was found. Cardiology seems to be my calling. Good luck to you. :-)
