Hi Allnurses, I just started pharmacology and I'm so frustrated. I'm so confused with learning the drugs, if anyone has advice about how to study and learn. I would be so grateful. thank you.

When you can, understand drugs in the context of their classifications instead of memorizing the individual drugs. Understand what they do to the body and where they work. It's easier to remember long term and if you get a question about side effects, but can't remember specifics, you can reason through it.

Learn all the suffixes to start. -olol, -pril, -mycin... There are more and look at the drugs you see commonly and recognize patterns. I always think about what it's for first. It's obvious that a BP med can cause hypotension as a side effect. Narcotics given IV - resp depression. I really liked understanding the actions of the meds. And a huge thing was in clinical I'd look at how the patient reacted. Give iron with OJ. Give a lot of meds with food. If you're learning about specific meds, compare and contrast them. Pharm is rough, but doable. Good luck;)
Thanks to everyone. First test is monday hopefully it will give me an idea of what's she want us to know more of.
