Random Drug Testing...

I am wondering if it is standard practice to make RNs undergo random drug testing? Why don't MD's fall subject to this? Does anyone know if this is common practice at UPenn?

I had a drug test when applying to a hospital, but the place where I work does not do drug testing on employees.

I don't mind...and even understand the necessity for pre-employment drug testing. I guess what annoys me is that in the future I will have to put unpaid time and effort into going to random testing. Whereas, my boyfriend who is in his last year of residency has only gone to drug testing once a year. Why is our time less valued? And shouldn't someone check up on them also?

I'm not sure I understand your point I've highlighted above. If you're talking about random testing performed on employees ... in order for it to be random, it would have to be an on-the-spot thing, during work time, with no advance warning.

Pre-employment testing is done on your own time because you're not yet an employee on the payroll.

Am I missing your point?
