do ob-gun nurses have to perform c-section? i'm debating with so many nursing positions; nurse midwife, RN, MSN, etc etc. But then again..I don't even know the differences between each. just answer my first question and forget I mentioned my debates :wink2:

Nurses don't perform surgery, surgeons do. As a student practical nurse, I observed a C-Section, and the RN's did play a major role in assisting the surgeons. I'll bet that they could do it by themselves if they were allowed!!!

In some facilities the OB nurses are trained to scrub and circulate C-sections. In other facilities the OR crew does that and the OB nurse is only responsible for receiving and recovering the baby.

You may be assisting the surgeon with the surgery, but you as a nurse will not be performing the c-section yourself.
