Questions about RN pay in CO

U.S.A. Colorado

Published

Hey! I'm going to be moving to Colorado early next year and was just concerned about the pay rates for RNs in Colorado. Right now I am an RN in OK. I work in an ER, have 5 years experience, 1 yr ortho, 3 yrs cardiac, 1 yr ER. I am flex status so no benefits. I make $35/hr plus shift diff. What are the average pay rates for RNs in Colorado? Do most hospitals have a set flex/prn pay rate (that is what most hospitals have here $30-35) or do they just go by experience and then maybe give a differential for not taking benefits. I would even be interested in full time if it was decent pay. Some hospitals around here frequently offer high paying short term contracts also, usually $50/hr for 13 weeks. Do any hospitals there ever do that like during heavy census times like winter? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I'm not in CO either but my guess is you will get slightly higher pay but will also be in a more competitive market.

I would start making contacts with recruiters now

You should be concerned, it's never enough. Hospitals here don't have short term contracts that I'm aware of. But you could work for an agency or travel agency and they do supply short term contracts. Usually you get pay based on years of experience. You can boost that with evening, night, and weekend differentials. There is no shortage here so don't expect bonuses, relocation, or anything like that. You won't make more money here, but it is an awesome place to live. I think with 5-10 years of experience you could make around $30, maybe more at an agency. Good luck.

I do per diem work (my 2nd job) for Banner Staffing Registry. I work in northern Colorado, either at the hospital in Loveland or Greeley. It's $34 hr., no guarantee of shifts (4 shifts per month minimum to stay with them), but you do get call back pay if they call you in and shift differentials. You can also do travel work with them, as they have hospitals in several different states.
