LPNs care for the sick, injured, convalescent and

disabled under the direction of physicians and RNs.

Typically, their responsibilities

include basic bedside care (such as taking vital signs),

preparing and administering injections, monitoring

catheters, applying dressings, treating bedsores. LPNs are charged with monitoring patients

and reporting adverse reactions to medications or

treatments. They collect samples for testing, perform

routine laboratory tests, feed patients, and record food

and fluid intake and output. They assist with bathing,

dressing and personal hygiene. They treat wounds and,

where state law allows, give medications and perform

venipuncture. In most states, LPNs give intravenous

medications, hang blood, and perform other higher

levels of care in keeping with their training and

certification.

LPN earnings vary substantially by region. LPN

wages average $13.53 an hour in Mississippi but

range to $23.67 per hour in Connecticut

Different duties, Scope of Practice can be state specific. Try going to the Georgia Board of Nursing site and see if you can find more specific answers pertaining to your state.

I love being a LPN/LVN in Texas we can perform many of the functions as lpnflorida mentioned, additionally with a solid med-surg foundation, we can act as a Vent pedi Home health nurse, with training, testing, checkoffs, and indirect RN supervision for $20-30/hr for patients with (40 plus nursing hours), or as adult patient care, $30 per visit. If possible I would strongly encourage you to look into your RN programs both at your community colleges, major universities if this is a option for you, as becoming a RN will allow more variety.
