"LPNs should be done away with altogether"
Jennifer, As many of nurses have already stated, often LPN/LVN have more clinical experience, where RNs have more theory based knowledge. The truth is the more education any nurse masters, LPN/LVN, RN, etc. more beneficial for you and your patients. I as a LVN in texas, working in pedi home health as a Vent trained nurse with a RN a phone call away, feel quite respected and appreciated by my patient's, their families, and my supervisors. You are already in the program, build your knowlegde base by utilizing the awesome RNs, LVN/LPNs, MDs, that you come in contact with during your clinicals, and upon your first job. I feel blessed to been around all nurses with 30 years experience, 1 year experience, etc, I will warn you some nurses eat their young, however, most often though their a great network of support when they see your passion and caring. Your future coworkers can help protect your license, they've lived it. Hang in there, nursing school is tough, don't stop learning, get that RN license as well. kim, LVN, and RN grad in December.

Questions on being a LPN
I love being a LPN/LVN in Texas we can perform many of the functions as lpnflorida mentioned, additionally with a solid med-surg foundation, we can act as a Vent pedi Home health nurse, with training, testing, checkoffs, and indirect RN supervision for $20-30/hr for patients with (40 plus nursing hours), or as adult patient care, $30 per visit. If possible I would strongly encourage you to look into your RN programs both at your community colleges, major universities if this is a option for you, as becoming a RN will allow more variety. Good luck in your future as a nurse!

I really dont know what to do
Bless your heart! Don't be so hard on yourself. Please understand that all healthcare jobs/programs will rock your world. I received my BS in Social Sciences before LVN/LPN school, honestly the BS was easier! The RN transition is easy as it's mostly theory based, however, if you find yourself choosing nursing, you will have many areas to work in. Nursing school is a full-time commitment, when your family and friends are out, sometimes you have to be at home studying. The sacrifice is great when your in the business of saving lives. Radiology is a fun, and difficult field, Radiologist are unique individuals, and different to deal with than other mds. Healthcare is rewarding, personally, professionally, and financially, keep researching, you will make the right decision! Good luck.

Getting into HH after a termination
I have enjoyed the last 2 years in HH with Maxim, I always have work, in fact overtime if I want it. However, I agree that a good foundation makes it easier. HH can be scary as you have no immediate support, like in a hospital setting. Best of luck! Hang in there!
