Hi, I have a few questions about Crozer-Chester Medical Center. I am a DE resident and I am very interested in applying to this facility.
1. How is the atmosphere in this facility, is it a good place to work?
2. Do they offer 8 hour shift options?
3. What is unionized nursing?
4. If I live in DE and work in PA, can I still keep my DE compact state license?
5. Should I obtain a PA license before applying??
I appreciate any information, even if its not relevant to my questions. I have just discovered this facility is twenty minutes from home and I am very eager to learn more about it...

The nurses in this article are 20 + yr veterans so must be good place to work....and aim to keep it that way for nursing. It is the flagship hospital of Crozer health system. They have both 8+ 12 hrs depending on dept.
You would need to apply for PA license and do keep your DE license, especially if initial license location...makes it easier getting subsequent licenses.
Does anyone else know anything about Crozer-Chester Medical Center? Anyone work there???

I'm from DE also and had one of my clinical rotations there. My experience as a student truly made me appreciate my current place of employment. I would never, ever work there. It is possible that it was just the floor that I was exposed to, but the lack of safety and patient care was disturbing. Nurses sat around and drank coffee the entire shift and the techs were nowhere to be found. The people that worked there were some of the grumpiest people I have ever seen - and they didn't even do anything all shift. Crozer has an extremely strong nurse's union so you know you will not be working under ridiculous conditions. Pay is high for new grads in the area, and for those who have been in the business for a while, but there is no way that I would sacrifice working somewhere that I felt safe and comfortable with the way my organized operated itself. Just my . Best of luck with your decision!
Also, have you considered Union Hospital in Elkton, MD? I had my preceptorship there and it was an amazing experience - such a friendly organization that offers a lot of support to the nursing staff. Just a thought.
Casper,
I am also looking into Union. It's actually a lot more convenient because I can work in MD without applying for another license. I had to go to the ER once and the people were wonderful. Unfortunately their pay isn't very competitive (not that I am all about the money, but its a lot more expensive to live in DE than in MD) and they only offer 12s, as far as I know. Definitely still worth considering.
Have you finished nursing school? Any other places in DE you would recommend or stay away from???
