Questions after commissioning

i just got my commission to the us army reserves 2 days ago and i am curious as to how long did it take for you to receive your orders and what happens after that?

though I have yet to go to the board, Just from reading here and talking with others you will receive your orders anywhere from 2 weeks to around a month after finding out you are commissioned. That will have your date for bolc, though some have gotten their orders only weeks before bolc. I think that is usually a logistical error though from Branch to recruiter to you. sometimes gets lost in the sauce.

Congrats Leekun!

I hope to commission this fall for AD, so I have not gone through the process. However talking to people who have, I have heard it can take 90-120s to cut orders for you to go to AMEDD BOLC at Ft. Sam. Also, just reading here on on this website it seems that reserve folk do like a pre-BOLC and then join up with Active Duty at some point at BOLC? Lite a FTX at Camp Bullis?

Congrats again! It must feel good to be done. That waiting is driving me crazy!

Waiting to get in is over but now I'm waiting for my orders haha. Ah, the military. :)

According to my recruiter, they told me that they will contact me as soon as they hear about my orders. For now, they said, start working out and be as fit as possible. This is a struggle for me since I can't seem to lose :(

Dude,

I hear you, I lost 70+lbs to get in fighting weight. You gotta eat high protein, low carb and run/lift. Try replacing one meal with protein bars it you can make it too. Costco got kashi bars and Safeway, giant etc have cliff protein bars, eat them restrict your carb intake and excercise, you will definitely drop weight.

For exercise, try running 3 days a week like mwf, and lift on tues, thurs, sat and rest Sunday. If your not running now, just start with one mile, then push yourself to the next mailbox or street sign on your last run of the week. If you can get comfortable running 3miles mwf you should be good to go. For your lift days you can either gym it up or hit up some push up sit up / pull up routines. Just google pass apft and you will find one of resources.

Pm me of you need workout ideas. Good luck. Push hard and never quit!

It took me 2 months before I got my orders for the reserves. I was not scheduled for BOLC, OBC back then, until I started drilling. In the reserves you do not have to go to BOLC before you drill unless things have changed in the last few years.

It took me 2-weeks before my orders came down. You will then need to go to your unit and inprocess there. They will more than likely be no help with getting you your uniforms so be diligent about finding out what sizes you need and picking them up yourself, AAFES.com will have everything you need. Also, get your ID card and your AKO account activated asap, you will need these. As for the weight and PT, if you've read my posts on this you know how I feel. Take a long hard look at what you are putting in your mouth and get honest about everything you eat, most people who struggle with weight eat like ****. As for the running, just keep running. Seriously, you can run everyday and you will live. Don't worry about pace at first, just get out the door as often as you can. It's more about willpower than anything. Best of luck.

You will need to wait until you have a hard copy of your actual orders. You will get this after you swear in and your are "officially" in the military. Bring your orders and 2 forms of ID to your local DEERS office, your recruiter should know where your nearest one is. They will set you up with an ID card and from there you will be able to set up an AKO account. To do that you will need to go to http://www.us.army.mil and log in from there. There will be an option to set up an account and you will have to do a bunch of cheetah flips and hoop jumping before your account is all set. The reason this is important is that it is your brain for all your stuff (email, personal info, pay etc.).
