Questions to ask at interview in LTC

Published

Hi, I have a question. I am interviewing (2nd time) at a LTC facility later this week. I have been in both good and not so good LTC facilities over the past 15 years. My main goal is to find a LTC facility that has the same type of values/ethics that i hold. I am wondering if it is appropriate to ask about turn-over within the facility, why it is occuring (IF it is), and also is it appropriate to ask about most recent state survey? How they did, what they are working to improve upon? How do i word questions regarding pt/nurse ratios? Without sounding judgemental? Any input you can give would be much appreciated!! I just want to know as much as i can about a facility before making the right/or wrong decisions regarding employment! Thanks.

Yes

and also is it appropriate to ask about most recent state survey?

Yes but if you reallywant to look professional you should just lookthat up yourself, its pub record, and then ask the DON what action plan they were using to correct mistakes.

How do i word questions regarding pt/nurse ratios?

"What are your Nurse to patientratios on XXX floor and how do you staff?"

The more you look up ahead of time the better you look.

Thank you for your advice. I know that last state visit there was in the past 3 weeks or so. Info is not posted on line yet. Thanks again for your response.

Ask about the survey if it's not yet been posted. Just know that not all people who do interviews are honest. If you look like the kind of person they want to hire, they may bend the truth to get you in the door.
