Question: Previous degrees

Hi all! I am halfway done with a BA (Psychology major, Biological Sciences minor) and plan to enter an accelerated/2nd degree BSN program as soon as I graduate with my BA.

My question is for nurses who also have degrees that they completed before going into nursing. How does (if at all and how much) your previous degree play a role in your nursing career? Do future employers look more favorably upon you, or try to place you in a role that could benefit from both degrees you have? Do you personally find your previous degree helpful in your nursing career?

I'll graduate with a BA in International Relations and Diplomacy. I was going to minor in Int'l Economic Development but decided against it since the red tape was going to be a hassle and I won't end up using it anyways.

What I study is important, though I will not use it in nursing. However, having a degree from a fine university WILL help me with life in general, and my specific degree has helped me become well-rounded, more informed citizen of the world.

I guess I didn't have a point; that was just my 2 cents!

If you will have a BA in psychology, why not consider a direct entry Master's degree program in nursing? You may be able to get an MSN or MN in the same amount of time it takes you to get that BSN. After a few years of bedside practice, you could get a post-master's certificate in a nursing specialty or get into nurse education or research.

We need more people willing to teach.
