Hi, my name is Ella and I have been checking out this site for a few months now and finally got the nerves to post a question here.:)
Well, I am from CT and I am getting ready to take the pre-entrance exam for the LPN program at Porter and Chester, my question is , is it true that the NET test will only have basic math and reading? I have been studying science because I had read somewhere that it would be part of the test as well. Thanks for all your input.

Yes, the test will only have simple math (no calculus) and reading comprehension on it. They sell books that will help you prepare for the exam. Call Porter and Chester and ask them where you can buy the NET (Nursing Entrance Test) book to help you study. Usually, once you register for the LPN entrance exam you can tell them that you want to buy the book to prepare yourself for the test. If they don't know about the book, call Vinal Tech High School's Nursing Dept and ask how you can purchase the LPN program entrance test preparation book (it's a small 100 page book with a light blue cover)...their number is 860-344-7100 extension #322. Middlesex Community College in Middletown, CT used to offer a LPN entrance exam course that would help you get prepared for the exam and I heard good things about it from my classmates in LPN school that took it and did well enough that they were able to get a high enough score to get into the program. Amazon.com has some books available as well:

Good luck!
Hey xenogenetic, thanks so much for the info. I did purchase the NET book and have been studying. The reason why I asked this question was because in the book that I have, there is a Science section. So I was a bit confused because from what I was told from a friend of mine , who did take the test a few years ago, was that the test would only be on basic math and reading comprehension. So I wasn't sure if maybe they changed it and added the science or what. I must admit , I am relieved that it is not part of the test.
I had no idea that there were places like Middlesex Community College, that offered test prep classes. I think that would of helped me out immensely. But because I will be taking the test this saturday, thats no help. So please keep your fingers cross for me and once again THANK YOU;)

Good luck this Saturday! I'm 99% sure that there is no science section still. I just went to the Graduation of the class graduating after me tonight. I loved the whole journey through LPN school...I even, dare I say, miss my classmates. You're gonna get in and love it!
Hey xenogenetic, Well I took the test this morning, I just got back. You were right, there were no science questions;) . I found the math section to be pretty easy, so I feel like I did well in this section but the reading comprehension was a bit nerve wrecking. I couldn't focus on what I was reading because I was to concern about the time given to us and also because there was this one guy there who kept asking questions in the middle of us taking the test:angryfire .
I was told we will recieve our score sometime next week. I'll let you know how I did. God I hope I pass, I really do want this.
I will write you soon, ella
Hey xenogenetic,
I just want to update you on what's going on. I recieved a letter on Saturday stating I did not pass the NET:scrying: . I called to schedule a retake for Feb. 28, and the instructor told me I failed by one point:banghead: . I'm very dissapointed because I let my fairs get the best of me. I know I could of done well on the test if I just would have relaxed and not worry about the time given to me. I felt like the test was not difficult at all, there was no reason for me to fail it.
Anyhow, I just wanted to let you know what was going on, and hopefully, no scratch that, and I will let you know how well I did on the test. No one knows how bad I want this and how hard i'm will to work for it. Well talk to you later and again , please keep your fingers cross for me.
Sincerely, Ella Love

Don't worry, you're going to pass on Feb 28th! Now you have experienced the test once and will feel a lot more relaxed next time. You're not going to have any problem on Feb 28th and score very high! Take care, and post again with the results of how high of a score you get.

I also took the porter and chester NET and failed by 1 point and am also retakeing it on the 28! de ja vu?
Hey coleco, I just read your post, how funny is that. When did you take the test? I took it on a Saturday, I believe it was the 27th of January. I failed the reading section, that's all I do is read, so I couldn't believe I failed that section. I was told I scored pretty high on the math section. How about you, what did you fail? I really do think the test is easy, like I said before, I just let the nerves take over. I will be taking my test on the 28th of this month at 1:00, I am ready for it. Well, I will keep my fingers cross for the both of us, Good Luck.
Just want to let you know I took the test on Wednesday and I pass. Now I have to schedule a day for my interview. I can't believe that I am 1 step closer to my dreams of becoming a nurse. Anyhow, I want to say thanks for keeping your fingers cross for me. Hopefully I can come back and tell you that I got in. Well untill next time.
sincerely, Ella

Congrats on passing the test!!
Thanks. I had my interview yesterday and the instructor told me that on my first test I scored a 39 and on my second test I scored an 89, how great is that. Anyhow, I was told I should hear from them in about a week. I'm a little bumed out because the April program is completely filled. I was told that they are starting to put together the October session. I just hope I get in this one.
