Question about FAS

Published

I have a question, and was wondering if anybody may be able to help me out or not. I was wondering about fetal alcohol syndrome. I never drank during my pregnancy, but my ex husband was a bad alcoholic, and also smoked marijuana. I am told that fetal alcohol syndrome can only be passed by the mother. Is there a possibility that since the fathers sperm fertilizes the egg thatfas can be passed that way? My oldest boy is 13 and has been diagnosed with mild MR, and does exhibit some of the signs I have seen in fas, like not understanding the consequences of his actions, we definitely cannot discipling him like we do our other 3 because it just doesn't work. I am lost here. Is this a possibility or does anyone really know? Please let me know. Thanks

FAS only occurs when the mom drinks during pregnancy. I don't think you can pin this on your ex.
