question about which drug names to study

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

My wife is planning to take the NCLEX-RN in March and she has studied the Brand names versus the Generic. How vital is it for her to go back and study the generic so that she knows both for the exam? Thank you. S.

The exam gives you both names so as long as she knows one she will be fine.

Back in antiquity (early 90's, at the time they first went to cptr testing) our class was warned to learn generic. We were told back then that generic would be on the test. They even posted bulletins all over the nrsg classrooms about this and said they wanted nobody to be surprised. I took PN NCLEX rather than RN back in 94 and seem to remember generic. I really think your wife should inquire with her school personnel, her state's board, the NCSBN, or even the RN review providers to get this question answered. I'm surprised it hasn't already been addressed at her school. Maybe somebody who has just taken the NCLEX can answer this question. At any rate, good luck to her.

I took the NCLEX on Dec 8, 2006 and both the generic and trade name were given on all drug questions.

Yep..the NCLEX gives both generic and trade names. Also in nursing school, our exams gave us both names.
