Question about clinicals.

Mine have been quite helpful, but only if I go hunt them down. Usually they figure I'm doing fine and leave me be. But if I get stuck, even on something silly, I don't have any trouble asking...and I haven't gotten slapped down yet.

There have been time's they've caught me in a mistake...but that's also what they're there for, and I appreciate being corrected, so I know what to do next time. I've never felt denigrated by my clinical instructors...but I've been incredibly lucky. There are others in my program that have had terrible experiences.

When I'm signing up, I listen to what the classes before me say about the instructors...and plan accordingly when registering.

How helpful is your clinical instructor? Are they there to help? Or just judge your actions?

Both. By telling me what I was doing right, and what I was doing wrong (and why), they were being helpful.

Most are good at what they do. But what if they just wanna get rid of you? Anyone can make mistakes, but it is up to the instructor whether to deduct points or not. I have seen some pretty bad mistakes made and the student is still in class.

I think if they know you are really trying and really serious, I dont think they would try to get rid of you. I would just get in there and give it all I have.

It really depends on the instructor. I had almost ALL wonderful helpful and caring instructors.

I only had one that I refer to as a drill sargent because she would send you home for the tiniest things. But I tell you what. I learned an awful lot from her - drill sargent or not! She basically beat some sense into me when I needed it. Wasn't kind about it at all. Put me on clinical probation for, get this, 'anxiety issues' lol. Well - she was right to put me on clinical probation, I got help for my anxiety (basically because I was forced to) and got on meds to help with my anxiety. After that point she saw the real me, in all my confident glory :)

In either case - I graduated May of 2005 and I believe that my instructors taught me amazing amounts of info. I appreciate all of them.
