Question about BS to BSN programs

Hi,

I'm new to the site. I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a school that will allow you to bridge your BS degree to a BSN, or if I just have to go through an accelerated BSN program?

My issue is that I'm a RN with a BS degree in Health Promotion, unfortunately I can't go on to NP programs because I don't have the right BS degree. Looking in the Utah/ Nevada area.

Thanks to anyone who reads this :)

Jenny

Go get your MSN and then take a certificate course for your NP.

Welcome to allnurses! :balloons:

You wouldn't qualify for an accelerated BSN program anyway, because those are to prepare people who aren't nurses for basic licensure and entry to practice.

Since you're already an RN, there are tons of BSN completion programs out there, designed to enable people who are already RNs (diploma or ADN grads) to complete the requirements for a BSN. It doesn't really matter, in those programs, whether you already have a BA/BS in something else -- it just means you would have fewer courses (apart from the specific nursing content) to complete to finish the BSN. Many of these programs are completely on-line, so it wouldn't matter where you're physically located.

I would check with the nursing programs in your area, looking for those that offer an "RN to BSN" or "BSN completion" program, and talk to them (with your transcript(s) in hand) about what would be required, specifically, for you to complete a BSN -- and do a search for on-line programs, as well, and ask them what they'd require of you. I think you'll be surprised at how close you are. Years ago, I did a BSN completion program at the nearest state university to me, with a nursing diploma and two years of college from years ago -- I was able to complete a BSN in two semesters (and the "full-time" schedule was one evening and one day a week -- most of these programs are designed with the idea that the students are employed full-time).

Best wishes!
