Punishment...

I recently walked off a job for several reasons... To start with Ive been in Healthcare for 14 years and have never had this situation occur: i got my assignment after punching in...a patients family memeber was a huge pain. Id had a target on my back for 2 weeks just because this was my "casual" job. Long story short I went to ask another nurse for assistance and while I was waiting for her to finish her task a CNA who copped a serious attitude exlaimed to me that "She doesn't want you anymore" just a combination of stress/anxiety/ working too many days in a row and personalizing that comment literally made me upset to the point i felt i needed to leave as my state of mind was not capable of caring for patients. Im being reported to the BON but i dont want to lose my license? Anyone know what to expect. I obviously have a different job that I love. I cant lose it??

    Sounds like you need to contact a lawyer familiar with nursing, such as through TAANA Executive Office - Home

    If you walked off the job in the middle of a shift without giving report to another nurse who accepted your patient assignment, you're going to be on the hook for patient abandonment. Be prepared.

    I appreciate your input. Regardless of the circumstances I know legally im at fault so while this just happend. I WANT to prepare myself. It's not something (obviously) that I've ever done before. We all make mistakes. I'm willing to own up to it.

    This. Especially the bolded part. BONs don't take abandonment lightly, and you'll need all the help you can get to get through this with minimal to no damage to your license.
