Ptec LPN question?

You do not need you AA in order to go to Ptec. When I was accepted (things may have changed but I do not think so) I took a TABE test and you had to test on the 11th grade level. Then in order to get into the program you had to take a TEAS test. I think you have to score an 70 or 80 on it in order to pass. The higher the score the better your chance to get into the program. I scored a 92. I know a few who did not pass the first time and you have to wait some time before you can take it again and then they passed with flying colors. It covered Reading, English, Math, all kinds of Science.

Now if you want to get your AA why not start taking pre-reqs at SPC or HCC. Then once those are done apply for the RN program?If you want to do the LPN-RN route take the pre-reqs for lpn-rn that way you are not taking needless classes.

Thanks for replying! I've been trying to get in touch with you since I've read some of your post and noticed that you went that route that I most likley am going to go on. I'm almost finshed with my A.A and my nursing req's, but the think is that I will most likley end with a GPA of 3.2. I doubt I will get accepted into the nursing program...I've done research and somewhere along I read that its much easier to get my LPN at PTEC and then try to get in the transtional program. Do you know if its more competitive, or is it true that its first come first serve ? If you can provide any info or some of your experiancce that would be awesome! And congrats on how far you have made it on your career :)

Not to burst your bubble but I went to an informational meeting in May I believe ( early June). It is a first come first serve program-there were over 200 people at the meeting. People were being turned away..it doesn't matter if you have a degree so yes it is very competitive. Look into other programs as well.

You don't need pre reqs for ptec but you need to take the teas test. Admission info is in their website. It's a little different depending in your situation-previous college, high school recent grad, etc will predict what testing you need for entrance. It's an inexpensive way to get your LPN. A lot of people attend the meeting but don't apply due to not have requirements met so apply and think positively. I was accepted first time applying and the group I was with was very diverse in our backgrounds and education. Good luck!

Also- you will hear rumors about SPC and their admissions changing all if the time during your program at ptec. I'm applying next year for the bridge program and that's what steered me towards ptec as well. Fellow classmates of mine have already started the bridge and are almost RNs now. It does make admissions easier but you're still competing with other LPNs.
