Did anyone feel the need to get their Psych RN certification before they applied to psych NP school? Or felt like it helped the application?

Whether or not it helps depends on the criteria they use for admissions. I'm aware of many that give points for experience in psych or have a psych experience requirement, but am not aware of any that require certification. I know of one that gives points for certification.

I haven't applied to NP school so I can't tell you if it helps. However, getting your ANCC certification in psych will show the NP program that you have at least two years of solid psych experience--because you can't get psych certification without it.

I let mine lapse over 10 years ago. Would like to do it again, but a lot of hoops to jump through & focused instead on my application to PMHNP program. Not being certified was never an issue.

I let my ANCC certification lapse a long time ago. I found that it benefitted my employer a lot more than it did me. They loved telling people that they had certified nurses on staff, but they didn't love it enough to give us any more money or even pay for the test.
Good to know. Ok applying without it. Hope my high gpa and LOc as well as experience is ebough
Your level of consciousness should help.
