  3. Hi, I am new to IV pumps. My question related to IV Piggy back. Our pumps have a piggyback setting. We attach the secondary bag, click IVPB and set the IVPB rate and volume and when it finished the primary bag continues to run at it's original rate/remaining volume. I know that before pumps, the primary bag had to be raised to a higher level than the secondary bag. Whichever bag is highest will run due to (more gravity?). My question is, do IV pumps control the flow from each bag or is gravity/height still relevant for IV pumps. I have been putting the bag I want to run higher, just in case. but wondering if this is necessary on a pump. Also at my job most nurses leave the IVPB empty bag/line in place for the day, and when connecting the next IVPB, they replace the bag with a new IVPB bag. So sometime the primary bag flows into and fills up the secondary bag. I've been clamping the secondary empty bags to prevent this backflow. But I suspect the right thing to do it to throw out the bag and line and use a new one for each IVPB med, even if they are back to back. Any advice on these issues? Im particulary confused on why the primary bag is backflowing into the secondary bag and If I should clamp the IVPB bag when not in use. Thanks!
  4. Im sure we've all seen blood pressure cuffs (on the automated machines) that stay inflated partially. I've always removed the connecting tube and squeezed out the air when that happened, to get an accurate reading. But I had the thought that the machine detects pressure and a partially inflated cuff will not affect accuracy, it will just inflate faster since it starts out at some pressure (not zero/no air inside the cuff). Anyone have any ideas? Best practices? Should I bother letting the air out? P.S. Best practice for alcohol swabbing skin is to start at injection site and swirl outward in a spiral? Just confirming. Thanks -New RN
  5. It has been 8 days since I took the Nclex (6 business days) and my results are STILL on hold. I must have slept a combined total of 10 hours these past 8 days, the anxiety is literally killing me, I mean I literally look unhealthy. It is so cruel that they say results are available after 48 hours (I live in a quick results state), and on top of that I expected to walk out of the NCLEX and do the PVT and know if I passed immediately. What happened was... AFTER I finished the exam (in 75 questions), during the part the comes after the exam is over, the computer had some kind of error pop up and the staff at the test center had to "restart" the program for my to click 'end exam' and that was it. I've spoken to pearson vue and NCSBN 100 times on the phone and both of them simply say "we can't tell you anything other than your results are on hold and we have no estimate of how long it will take". I've looked this up and other people with the hold pop up report having to wait 3-6 days at most, I can't find a single case of being on hold for this long. I am starting to suspect that these companies just don't take this seriously, if they knew 1/10th of the agony I am experiencing they would hurry up and do something about this. There needs to be some oversight over this process and some recourse for students !
  6. Hi, My name is Kathy. I took the NCLEX about 28 hours ago, on Monday 9/25, in New York State. I finished at 75 questions which I took to be a good sign. (I doubt I did so bad as to fail in 75; I graduated valedictorian with a 3.9 GPA, but I literally started studying the day before the NCLEX only so who knows...) My computer froze up on the research questions (I highly regret doing those questions, I WISH I just clicked END EXAM as soon as my exam was over and skipped the experimental questions that don't count). My exam was still successfully recorded according to the staff but apparently this issue caused some kind of investigation on my results and I was told by pearson vue that although everything is in proper order, I might have to wait longer than 48 hours for quick results. This obviously is terrible as I am dying of anxiety and THIS ERROR WAS THEIR FAULT. When I tried to do the PVT an hour or so after the exam I got the "the exam results are on hold" pop up (neither the good, nor the bad pop up) which makes sense as they are probably looking into the issue. I tried the PVT about once an hour for the first 24 hours post test. A few hours ago when I try the PVT it wont even let me past the first page. When I click on NCLEX-RN (the page where you select either RN or PN nclex to register for) it gives me a pop up "you may only schedule a single exam at a time" There is very little information on this pop up, and I am more scared than ever. has anyone gotten this pop up and can share if they passed or failed or what I can expect? Also can any New York RNs share with me how long it took before the saw there license number on the state site? I was told by pearson vue that given this incident I may see my results sooner from the NY BON than from pearson vue. I will update when I find out I passed (Yea, I said it, confidence!!!)
  7. It is probably too late, but I would not recommend going to LIU brooklyn RN program. I would advise you to seek out another program. Very expensive and horrible administration. A nightmare
