Private or State school?
Thank you for engaging with my post! Fortunately my academic struggles are a thing of the past since I started this thread in 2019. I officially passed the NCLEX and now hold a BSN, RN making the dean's list at the university I attended. Reading through my previous threads to see how far I came from always makes me feel humble

University of California, Davis (UC Davis) Fall 2024
Congrats to those who have heard back from Davis! That's a great start to your nursing career. For those who did not hear back, what is your game plan? I have tried applying to all these hospitals in the Sacramento, Folsom, EDH, Placerville, Roseville, Rancho, etc. areas and have been declined left and right due to being a a new grad nurse and hospitals wanting people with "more RN experience". I've decided to extend my radius to the bay area and see what luck I get over there. I am extremely discouraged by these results and curious as to what advice you all would have.

Private or State school?
I am currently taking my last science courses (A&P, micro) at a community college and am starting to look into nursing programs that I can possibly get into. With that being said, I come from very low grades. All my GED is C's with occasional B's. Because of this my GPA stands at at least a 2.4, which is not competitive when applying for programs. Due to my low GPA I decided to take my science courses one at time so I can really focus on the class. My school does A&P in two parts so I am in part 1 as of right now and take part 2 next term if I pass. My grade in that class currently stands at a low B and probably will turn into a C (with my luck). My counselor keeps telling me to change my career or to try a private school, but I am just afraid that since I'm mainly C student, if private school will even be worth all that money because knowing me I have a high chance of having to retake a class, which will be SUPER costly. If I do look into a state school I will just have to consume more time and classes and my community college to try and regain a better GPA, which also sucks because I've been at my CC for 3 years now and I just feel like I am behind or something. Even though I'm 21 (recently) with big goals. I guess what I'm looking for is some encouragement and someone to tell me if its possible I can make it? As well as which school would be a better option for me? Thank you.

Is community college keeping me from reaching my nursing career faster?
I have attended a community college for about two years now working towards a transfer to a 4 year. When I first began it was required that I had to take a placement testing for math and English. Unfortunately, I placed the lowest in math which is math 20 and atleast one below college level writing in English. In order to carry onto certain classes required for nursing such as my science's I needed to complete math 120, which then allows me to start my science's which was my ticket out once completed. I have worked my way up from basically the bottom and I have finished all my general Ed and have nothing leftover but comm (completing over summer), anthro (completing over summer as well), math 120, and 4 science classes. I went to a counselor for advice since I heard these science classes were difficult such as chem. My counselor spaced my classes out where I can take 2 at a time starting 2019 so I can pass them with a good grade, but it stretched me out all the way till 2020 for me to be able to transfer. I feel like i've been at this school forever and my motivation is so shot since I feel like ill be 80 by the time they let me go since I'm always hearing something different from every counselor. Am I the only one who had to go through this? or is this typical for a student who had to work their way up? I wanna finish sooner than that so I don't know if I should shoot for an associates then bridge to BSN or just go straight for the BSN like originally planned since I have the time, youth, and support with money.

Low GPA and older student with passion for nursing. Please help!
I am currently finishing my first semester of city college and a bit nervous when looking at my GPA and grades overall. I am not a slacker by any means, but can become discouraged easily and tend to doubt myself. I am pretty much average when it comes to my grades meaning some B's and a few C's here and there. My biggest problem is I don't test well. Testing makes me nervous to the point I cant concentrate and Jinks myself. I'm passionate about the medical field and already have done a program through the school with internship, and my current job which is at a nursing home as well. I don't want to give up on this goal of mine and need some encouragement and a few questions answered. Will nursing schools turn me down for C's? and Is there any nurses out their that had the same problem as me when they where a student?
