  1. That’s a good idea about the hotel. Thanks.
  2. Thank you everyone. There is no way to find an ”in between” home due to child care needs. That would be another huge issue to deal with. I think I am going to apply and see what I can get. I am familiar with the hospitals in the area so I am hoping the odds are in my favor. If not then I’ll stick it out where I am.
  3. Hello everyone, Back in December, when I finished my nursing program, we (hubs and 3 small children) moved from our hometown to another city. I am currently in a GN Residency at an amazing trauma 1 hospital which didn't require me to sign a contract. Although it is not the exact area I want to be in, I am absorbing a lot of information and am extremely thankful for this experience. Well, my spouse recently received a promotion and basically, we need to move back to where I went to nursing school, which is 2 hours away. We aren't moving until the summer but is this a legitimate reason for me to put my 2 weeks in? Should I start applying for jobs back at home and make sure I have something lined up before I do anything? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I really don't want to burn any bridges, but I also don't want my family to suffer from me having to travel an extra 4 hours a shift. TIA
  4. Unfortunately, they do not allow any switching of schedules.
  5. They'll take the first grade as long as it's a passing one.
  6. Your packet should contain all the info for orientation. Time. Place. At least, that's how it was last year. It may even contain dress code. Just look over everything carefully.
  7. Sadly... You may have lost your spot. I'd be going to the DM campus or calling tomorrow morning if I were you.
  8. No. You are lucky if you have numbers... what's yours if you don't mind me asking?
  9. If y'all haven't checked you school emails.., you may wanna
  10. If anyone is on here and hasn't checked their school emails... you might wanna. :)
  11. I just joined the FB page just in case y'all have questions... this site doesn't always alert me.
  12. I believe it was on a Monday morning. It's a busy day. You get to find out what clinical group you're in once you open your welcome bag/folder. You'll try on scrubs. Meet classmates. Talk to SNA (me!). Drug test. Meet instructors... lots of info. Just be friendly because you are going to be with these ppl for a long time. Lol.
  13. I'm a current student... The TEAS is pass/fail. They go off pre-req GPA, then cumulative GPA for tie breakers. Last fall we found out a month and a day after the applications deadline.
  14. They started a new curriculum this past Spring, so they are trying to get all the old curriculum students completed, which is why they are allowing us to do summer. Normally there are no summer classes... unless you choose to do electives or something similar. The USF/HCC program may go over the summer too.
  15. No, I'm doing the 3rd semester over the summer (last of the old curriculum)and will be finished on December.
  16. The excitement is very high, especially right now. We did the our Pinning Ceremony last night and it was pretty nice. And seeing the actual lamp/candle lighting was pretty awesome! :)
  17. An answer given for what... SNA usually responds pretty quickly to messages. If you're looking for a time frame to know about acceptance.... last fall we found out on 6/16. So right about a month after the applications were due.
  18. First, I want to say congrats for getting your apps turned in. The waiting fame honestly sucks. But it's good y'all have each other to talk to. Second, if y'all have any questions the Student Nurses Association (SNA) can help with some questions about the program. So don't be afraid to ask/message SNA on their FB page. They also events that pre-Nursing students can attend. I'm not sure if every campus has one but this is the link for Dale Mabry's SNA. Hcc Dale Mabry Sna | Facebook We do communicate with all campuses so getting you pointed in the right direction shouldn't be a problem.
  19. Hey guys!!! I just wanted everyone to know that if y'all have questions about the program please join the FB page for HCC Dale Mabry SNA or just send a message. It's for the Student Nurses Association, and they can help with some questions. Granted, we can't answer everything but we will do our best to help you out. Here's the link: Hcc Dale Mabry Sna | Facebook
  20. So what's your pre-req GPA? I'd calculate it but I don't know if they're all 3 credits or not. It never hurts to apply. I mean the sooner you get in the better in my opinion.
  21. That means they have your application!!! They can't put complete until they review around the deadline. As for the ASAP, are you taking any current classes that would effect your gpa?
  22. Hello! So I am pretty sure (not 100%) the new curriculum is 2 days in class, with 3 total classes ( if nights it's usually 3 days starting at 5pm) and one clinical day (time varies per location). Plenty of people still work full time. It's just hard. If you get financial aid there is a WiNGs program that can help with child care, books, or tuition. Also, if you don't have a medical background once you finish your first semester you can apply as a patient care tech at various hospitals in the area.
  23. I'm a current student and I think everyone right now is planning on applying for Fall 2018. I'm sure once the acceptance letters go out, you'll have more replies. :)
  24. Yes, I started last Fall. I am currently finishing my second semester: Med-Surg I. Since I'm in the old curriculum, I'll be doing OB/Peds and Mental Health over the summer. That's going to be fun! I'll be finishing in December. So, I'll be starting my last semester when y'all start your first. First semester is really an overload of information but as long as you practice your skills in lab and study everyday you'll be fine. I like to study alone but also like study groups too. I joined a few study groups until I found the right group of people to study with. They work really well for reviews before a test. Definitely study and know the material on your own so the study group can help in your weak areas. You will die laughing when you learn how other people remember things. It really goes a long way. Plus it makes it fun. As for any mini meltdowns, Yeah... I had 2 little ones my first semester. I just had to learn that it was/is ok to take breaks and enjoy life here and there. You need it to avoid burnout. As of right now, second semester- no meltdowns because I've found my groove. I hope I don't jinx myself since there are a few wks left in this term. Lol. As for clinical days, they are fun! You need to keep yourself busy and make sure you tell your nurses you want to see it all! A lot of nurses enjoy the fact you want to learn and will teach you. It's when you'd rather sit and talk than help out where you don't learn... if you don't learn, it shows and your instructor will be on top of you. You do not always change your clinical site every semester... I will be at my one site for 3 semesters. I know other students who have been to different hospitals every semester they've been in school. I love my location! and their cafeteria-great chicken wings! Lol. Oh and each campus: DM, SS, and PC, all have their own SNA - Student Nursing Association. This is a club that basically helps you as a student and it's run by students. There is always 1-2 calculation reviews at the beginning of every semester. It helps a lot of students. SNA also does other things but y'all can figure that out later. Just know SNA is here to help. I started with SNA during my first semester and the upper students had some great advice! :) I know I just wrote a lot. I'm not sure if it'll help but hey, at least you know. lol.
  25. I was a 3.57 last fall... apparently that was a rare cut-off gpa. And the highest at that. I believe previous semesters were around 3.3; don't hold me to that because I'm not 100%. If you want definite numbers you can go see and advisor on campus and they actually have previous cut off years lists for all programs.
