  1. I have an interview in the Cath lab next week and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on questions I should be asking or what I should expect. I have been working on a cardiac step-down unit for over a year and think it will be a good transition in my career. Any tips appreciated! Thanks!
  2. Hi everyone, I have been working for a year on a cardiac step down unit. I am not happy and would like to explore different areas of the hospital. I have been really thinking about applying for an OR position. We have to tell out manager before we apply to a internal position in our hospital. I have no idea how to go about this conversation. Should it be over email, phone, or in person? Also, any advice on what to say or how to start out the conversation without offending my manager? I am also worried that by doing so I am going to screw myself over somehow. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
  3. Hi all, I came to this website for some career advice. I am a newish grad who began my career as a RN on a busy cardiac stepdown unit this past June. My orientation ended on October. I already know I do not want to be here for very long and want to explore other areas of nursing. On our floor we can only take up to 4 patients, which I am very grateful. I am just not sure how much more I can take mentally. I want to shadow the OR to see if it might be a fit for me because I saw some job openings for my hospital system. I am just wondering if it is a good idea to ask my manager about it or if it’s too soon since I haven’t even been on the floor for a year.
  4. Thank you for your input. That is kind of what I was thinking but sometimes it can be hard to stay positive. It will be worth it in the long haul =)
  5. Hi everyone, So I am about a month in my new student nurse job in the float pool and I am very grateful for having to have gotten my foot in the door somewhere. I was really excited to have the opportunity go to different floors, care for patients and see maybe what kind of floor I might want to go into once I graduate. However, since I have started I have only gotten to work once as a tech and the rest I have been put as a patient sitter. Though the money is nice and easy, the hours are long and boring and it is not what I had anticipated on doing when accepting this job offer. I feel as though I was omitted information about this and it was not really emphasized. Is it too soon to talk to my manager or someone about how I am feeling or about switching departments? I graduate in May so I am not sure if I should just wait it out. Thanks for reading and I would just like some advice on how to deal with this!
  6. Hi all, I just recently took my Hesi fundamentals exam for the end of this semester and I failed pretty badly. My program does not require us students to get a certain percentage on the tests, but it is very upsetting to get a such a low score and it makes me fear of what to come in nursing school. I did not study really because our professors did not really stress that it was important. I feel like this has already pre-determined my NCLEX results even though its still really early in the program. I was wondering if anyone out there has had a similar experiences or has any tips about these kinds of tests. Or has anyone improved their hesi scores throughout the semester? Anything will help, I am just feeling so pessimistic right now
