New grad looking in SF
Ok well that changes things. You have a reason to move there(husband has a job). I would still make plans to work outside the city though. Of course be hopeful of landing a job in SF but have backup plans is what I am saying. Depending on your husbands income situation you may have more time to wait and see. However the best advice that I can give a new grad is take the experience you can get.

New grad looking in SF
Not sure where you are from but I sure wouldn't plan on a move to SF until you actually have a job locked down. The Bay Area is a large place and you should be open to taking a new grad job anywhere you can get one. I am assuming you may not be from California? New grad job market is tough here IMO. Certainly tough enough that I wouldn't plan to limit my job hunt to one part of the Bay Area. Just keep an open mind in your job search.

- Well known hospital vs. preferred specialty
My guess, would be the NICU/peds experience. Everything about NICU/peds vs general med surg will be different. Yes coming from a well known hospital is always good but I would think actual patient experience working in your specialty would be much more valuable. Also I didn't quite understand if you have the NICU/peds job in hand or you are turning down the med surg job for a chance to work NICU/peds? If that was the case I would take the job you have in hand.- Scripps New Grad Residency March/June 2017

Yes and my advice is to try and stay busy to keep your mind off of it. BTW I saw on the handout they gave us they will only select 20-25 people for the program. Is that the true number? If so how many people did they interview? I know the interviews were supposed to be two days and pretty much running all day. In my interview "group" we had 4 applicants. As I left I saw another group already in the waiting room.- Scripps New Grad Residency March/June 2017

- Brightwood San Diego
Well for specific details yes at times the school can be very disorganized. I can see why people would rant and whine because for the cost you would expect more. However, as I said just use it as a vehicle to get where you are going and ignore the drama you will undoubtedly see during your time there.- Brightwood San Diego
Brightwood/Kaplan grad here. I have nothing good or bad to say about my experience at the school. To me it was just a vehicle to get me where I wanted to end up. I would say if you plan to go the ADN route that the local city colleges are a much cheaper option. The only advantage that Brightwood offers is that it is much easier to get into than the city colleges. As far as the job comment I think something needs to be clarified. The job market in San Diego for new grad nurses is difficult period regardless if your name has ADN or BSN behind it. There are limited new grad slots at any given hospital with a ridiculous amount applicants. That said I do know of classmates who were hired into acute care facilities and also different environments(SNF, Subacute, LTACH, etc.). I would take a wild guess that new graduates from SDSU, National University and Point Loma with BSN degrees probably have the same situation. Maybe any new grad BSNs from San Diego can chime in.
