You Might Be A Nursing Student If......
You Might be a Nursing student if ............ 1. You are not allowed to talk about your day at school at the dinner table. 2. You have what you think is a nightmare, and realize "oh I'm just at clinical." 3. You have replaced sleep with coffee and red bull. 4. The librarian at school thinks you're a stalker. 5. You have no problem discussing sputum and bowel movements at lunch. 6. You find yourself wiping other people's butts more than your own. 7. Your parents reported you missing over a year ago. 8. Your books require wheels 9. You get excited when someone says there is dressing change or a catheter to be done 10. You realize that you fall asleep with your nursing text books more than your husband... 11. Your Christmas list consists of: NCLEX books, Drug flash cards and nursing care plan books 12. The thought, "what the Heck are you talking about" runs through your head at least once a day 13. Your friends start wondering if you died 14. You know who Don Gloves and Ted Hose are 15. You get to wear your favorite color: white 16. The word "care plan" makes you sick to your stomach 17. You find yourself subconsciously giving your family and friends nursing diagnoses.

What to do before classes start?
I would suggest getting a backpack or rolling bag for your books, lots of pens and pencils, notebook paper, computer paper, be prepared to work on your computer alot. You'll want to buy a few NCLEX review books. I use them to help study for tests plus I reviewing for the NCLEX as I go along. Other study books are good. Heck, just add a Barns and Nobles gift card to your Christmas List. You'll want a good medical dictionary, medical terminology, lab values guide, nursing diagnosis/care plan book, and medication guide if they are not required. You will want a good stethoscope, penlight, bandage scissors and comfy pair of shoes. Clipboards and mini clinical guides are good for clinicals. Make all the study guides you can for tests. Get to know your classmates and everyone work together to help each other. Getting organizers and a bookcase would be a good way to organize your books and notes at home. Binders and folders make getting notes to class less trouble. A calender or day planner would be essential to keep you updated on important dates. You can do this! No matter what the age. My class is made up mostly of people over 32. Just remember, the age of the people in the class doesn't matter. You are all in this together and are there for a common goal. Keep your head up, keep organized, and work together and you'll do just fine. I wish you lots of luck and success in the future! (((HUGS)))

nursing school and being a stay at home mom
When I started my pre-req's I was a stay at home mom. I took care of my kids during the day and went to school at night. Now that I'm in the nursing program I only have the option of going in the day. My kids are in daycare. Having small children while in nursing school is definetly a challenge. You have to work around everyone's busy schedule. But, it's do-able. Just recruit you a good support system of anyone who can help take the kids for a couple hours and let you get some studying done. Even if it is just getting the kids to bed early and staying up a couple extra hours. Best Wishes and good luck! HUGS!
