I wouldn't worry about that. I had less volunteer experience than you and I got in first time. Do you have any work experience in customer service? I used my skills from my work experience as examples for my questionaire

WOw! that's impressive! The main things I can think of is having more university credits. Usually they like to see people with more credits than just the bare minimum but that being said they defs also let people in who don't have more than that. Doing really well on the questionare will be important too obviously. Really though, that's a strong application from what I gather.

I think being yourself and communicating in a clear professional way is probably the best way to go. Rumors about getting in, aspects of the program and even the new curriculum run rampant around BCIT so I wouldn't completely change the way you answer based on rumors. :) Sorry I just corrected my post. I saw a typo. I would think they'd want to see reflection.

Yah, I would ask admissions about that because I definately littered my answers with my personal experience and emotions. In the program we do a lot of reflective journalling so I wouldn't be surprised if they'd want to see personal reflection... Not sure though, that's just my opinion.

@catandions, who did you hear about the incident report thing from? I got in first time by just writing as though I was journalling about my experience. I used professional language and just talked about how I dealt with my experience and reflected on how that changed me as a person.

Interesting! I hadn't heard that before. I definitely filled mine out like a narrative. I was over on all of my word counts but I tend to be wordy. Try not to go over though. I have heard you can loose marks for it.

Don't think of it as a quiz because it's not one. I read over the standards at the link they supplied and had an idea of a few different scenarios I could write about for each trait/quality

It was really straightforward to me. Think of it like a written interview. The standards of nursing are traits nurses must demonstrate and they'll ask you to give examples of when in the past you demonstrated them

I think it's less spots than that. As far as I know, with the new curriculum starting, they are still accepting the same number of students per year, it's just being split up over three cohorts. So 60ish people will be let each semester. At least that's what they told me at the office when I was asking about it. I'm not sure if that's still the case. It might actually be 150 spots because they will probs take 96 into the current curriculum in Januaray and start the 66 intake in april.

Microbiology, I think is. Pathophysiology most likely will not be. The patho at BCIT is extremely nursing specific and also specific to the nursing program. I'm sure you can email the advisor and ask though.

You can google the bc transfer guide and see there if they have them listed

I think I included 2 reference letters. One from work ( I worked for a printing company in sales) and one from my volunteer experience at the seniors home. My GPA is about 4.0. Most people's GPAs seem to range from 3.0-4.0. I have a Bachelors degree in music so I have a tonne of extra credits. I had a B+ in anatomy but had an A+ in psycology so I believe my pre-req GPA was around 4.0 too. Any other questions?

Hey guys, Just for your interest, we've started up a BCIT nursing student newsletter here Current Issue | The Scoop of Practice Please check it out. We are hoping to do lots of staff/student profiles and provide program information as well as professional information about different specialties in future issues.

It made my life so much easier but you can get away with out it. I would recommend getting it though

I'm pretty sure that applying earlier in no way helps you. Bcit is a competitive entry program. They wait until the application close date to start going through them as far as i am aware... As for the April Jan intake I'm not sure

Hi J.gill for the prereqs you don't need to transfer them usually. Just submit a transcript when you apply. Once you're in the program if you have any courses you want to transfer such as microbiology you will need to apply to transfer those.

Hi guys, I'm well aware that most of you are probably not watching this thread anymore, but I have a question. I am starting this Jan and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations about which textbooks are useful and which ones are not. The list is super expensive so I'm looking to cut expenses. Thanks :)

My prerequisite GPA was: ENGL 1177 Academic Writing or a first-year transferable English composition course* (3.0 credits) - I used my degree which has a 4.0 gpa Anatomy & Physiology* - must have been completed within the past 3 years (6.0 credits)- B+ PSYC 1101 Introductory Psychology 1 or an equivalent Psychology course* (3.0 credits)- A+ General Education [PDF] electives at a 100 level minimum in at least 2 different academic disciplines (6.0 credits)- 4.0 (A average) I have 40 hours volunteer experience in a nursing home and have worked with children with disabilities. I also included my sales/ customer service employment history as relevant experience. I loved volunteering in the nursing home. That is actually the reason I ended up applying for nursing. Originally I was thinking of medical imaging but I was just so inspired by the way the nurses worked with the residents. I love seniors and you really get the feeling that you're improving their life quality. I was working along side physio people helping out with the mobility program.

I thought I read that people who had applied before, had gotten accepted before redoing the questionnaire but I can't find the post so maybe I dreamt it. I tend to get very realistic dreams when I'm stressed so who knows

Make sure you guys apply again, It looked like last year some people got conditional acceptance before even filling out the questionnaire if they were applying for the second time. I'm so sorry to hear you guys didn't get in
