Thoughts from a person with Borderline Personality Disorder
Thank you bravely sharing your story! As a mental health professional, I have witnessed more stigmatizing views about BPD than any other mental health condition. You may have felt misunderstood and judged in the past, while providers may feel ineffective and inadequate. If you haven't already done so, look for a therapist who specializes in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). These therapists do not stigmatize and will show you the empathy you deserve and need. Best wishes! - PMHNP-BC

CCFreak, I could not agree with you more! Thanks

"I Narcanned Your Honor Student"
I agree. When we became public servants, whether that be nursing, EMT's, physicians, etc., we placed ourselves in positions of, not above or better than, but professionals that people place their trust, confidence and ideally respect for. Personally, I dislike all bumper stickers, t-shirts et al., especially ones that attach my name or reputation in ways I can't control or condone. That said, I happen to love dark humor about healthcare, as long as it is in it's proper forum :)

You are a nursing student, right? Don't take offense by those of us "seasoned" (and I will not say "hardened or rude") because, as others have said, dark humor is a way we sometimes cope will the saddest realities of being human. That said, please don't be influenced by those here that offer unsupportive comments. These HCPs would do well to think a little deeper about what they are offering you. As I see it, your perspective is right where it should be at this point in your career; open and susceptible to compassion and empathy for those we care for. Best wishes for your future and I look foward to you joining the profession by getting licensed! (just thoughts from a new psych NP student)

Looking at psych NP programs
Thank you for your great advice. I'm in AZ and the only local online program for PMHNP is the DNP program at ASU. Thank you for your help.

Looking at psych NP programs
Hi , Any suggestions for the quickest route to becoming a MHPNP? Not that I'm trying to take the easiest route because there is no such thing, but age considered, I am 59. Does anyone know of an online masters program ? Thanks-truly appreciative! (finally have BSN)

Thoughts from a person with Borderline Personality Disorder
I want to be clear that while I'm certainly far from perfect, it would be wise to inform you that borderline personality disorder is not a mood disorder, although mood disturbances and swings can be part of it. It is quite different from bipolar disorder. I apologize if I offended you. Good luck to you.

I'm not intending to judge or diagnose you, but are you sure you don't mean Bipolar disorder? No offense but you don't really sound borderline at all.

first nursing job, i hate it!
I would think about finding another job. No one should dread their job so much that it causes severe anxiety. That is putting yourself and others at risk at well. Your focus probably is compromised too. As a veteran nurse with over 30 years experience, I am honesty embarrassed and ashamed of the way new nurses are treated by nurse administrators today. It's hard for experienced nurses! Believe me, it wasn't like this years ago. I'm sure you've heard the expression about "eating our young." What you're going through, is a prime example of that. I am very sorry this is happening to you. My suggestion is that you start to look for other options that provide a more supportive environment for you. Check into behavioral health or community non- profit agencies that need nurses. Many of these places are crying for help. Don't worry about leaving your first job after 6 months or so. Everyone understands that new grads just need a job. Best of Luck!
